Handy motorcyle lift.

I have a Handy 1,000 lb. motorcycle lift that is as new that I have enjoyed for a few years working on my two wheelers, but the new triglide is too wide in the rear to fit and I have the side extensions. Does anyone make a kit to make the rear of the lift wider for a trike? I know the trike weights more that 1,000 lbs., but I think it would lift the trike safely.

Thanks Mick (trikenewby)

I bought a 1500 LB ATV/Motorcycle lift from Harbor Freight thinking it might work on the Trike. Unfortunately the Trikes center of gravity is just too far back for a jack like that to lift the rear end even if you have the front end secured or weighted down. I ended up exchanging it for a 2-Ton floor jack and weighing the front wheel down with about 150 pounds and carefully jacking the rear end up as far back as I could place the floor jack to get it high enough to put on jack stands.

J&S (shown) and Pitbull make a nice and sturdy trike jack, but they are rather pricey and take up a lot of garage floor space.

If you need a table lift, get one rated for the weight of a Triglide. A 1,000 lb lift is not going to cut it, unless you want to roll the dice and maybe have this happen.

Ditto.
I have a Handy BOB 1500. Works great for the trike. Yea, it'a a little spendy, but what is your life (and trike) and limbs worth.

as they say pay me now or pay me later. later is usually more than now

HHMM, I thought that table was to check the center of gravity for proper balance.....:xzqxz::xzqxz::confused::confused:

No matter which table you get, I bet the first time you use it, your heart skips a beat or two. Wishing I had a garage so I could have a lift.

I've never gave much thought about the 1st time I used a lift, I trusted my decision that I got the right tool for the job. When my dad and I both had only 2 wheels, we had a 1,000 lb rated direct lift. Once the trikes come along it was sold and the Handy BOB 1,500 was purchased to replace it. It has been money well spent when you consider some of the work I've done off of it.

Just weld or bolt some angel iron along the side and it won't buckle in the middle like that.
Heavens just beef it up and it will work. Might have to change out the jack , but cost is still very little compared to a new lift.
I like to save money and still be safe.

Sir,
since you are one of our Tech Guru's, could you tell me if a pair of 12" handlebars will bring the grips closer to me than a 10" pair of Reach bars?? I am short 5'6" tall with short arms.

The reach bars should bring them closer, most of your raised bars such as mini ape's keep the same reach dimensions, they are just taller. The batwing reach bar from Harley does bring the grips 2" closer. My dad has that bar on his 09 and it turns and comes back toward the driver.

Agree with him. I have the reach bars on my TG. I'm able to have a little bend at the elbow now.

I wish I had done what Kevin of DK Customs did to his--took off the original handlebars, cut them and had extensions welded on them. He added 9 inches. I probably would've went with 7. This also allowed him to angle the grip portion back toward him if he wanted.

Another advantage to that was he was able to mount several things extra to his handlebars.

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY AND INFO. its going to be the HD reach bars or the 2+2 krome works then. just wish someone in Michigan had a pair so I can try them out. :Coffee:

The picture isn't the greatest, but these are the reach bars from HD on my dads 09 TG. The reach bars kind of turn in and come back vs some bars that just get wide and maybe comeback some. If you're having trouble with pain between the shoulders due to leaning forward to grip the bars, you want a set that comes back towards you.

I have mine forward about as far as you can get them they can come back a ways. the straighter grip angle really helped my wrists and shoulder aches. Bars are personnel things what works for one may be the answer for another. God luck in your quest for them  ride safely fearless

Looking at the reach bars that Fearless has will have you strung out too far tbear! If you're only 5'6" as I am, the mini-apes I have on my TG (sent you a photo) have the grips in 2" and have me sitting straight up and elbows aren't "winged out". As I mentioned in my e-mail your HD dealer can simulate what the different bars would look/feel like on any TG.
