H.D. Almost the worst bike.

Wow... I see this thread has over 12,000 views since I posted it a coupla weeks ago! Must be deemed an interesting discussion alright. The posts about miles traveled verses problems make some sense to me. The guys in the shop at my dealer told me that they think the average motorcycle owner here in Idaho rides between 4,000 and 6,000 miles per year. That will vary according to climate of course. Colder regions are even less. There are a lot of bar hoppin' weekend warriors here also...just for show and no go. My dealer has a used 2011 TG for sale just like mine that has 7,500 miles on it. Looks like new.

But I think the more miles the more mechanical problems could have a bearing in this subject alright. Some of us ride for the sheer joy and pleasure but some ride to look cool. And when you ride for that reason, your lack of miles means lack of breakdowns fer sure.

I can remember my dad and I stopping at a dealer when he 1st got his Triglide and the dealer being surprised he was traveling on it. Dealer said all the people who they had sold them to had only just been riding them around town.

That remark that the salesman said is all to common when you don't know what you are talking about, but i have a better one. when i had my bike converted to a trike in 2011 the dealer told me i was going to ruin the value of the bike and told me i was making a big mistake even though i told him i could not balance the bike anymore with my bad knee. well he did not get the job and i went to another dealer who did a great job and was looking forward to doing it for me. i will not say anything bad about Harley salesmen because most of them are well versed in their job, just not all of them.

I have to agree that Harley Davidson is almost the worst bike and in my case it's almost the worst trike. I have a 2010 TG. I have had numerous problems with brakes, and tires. The heat is terrible even after changing to VH exhaust removing the Cat converter, and replacing tuner and air breather. I am going to test drive a Honda GW this spring and go from there. I have a friend that has a GW and with a 6 cylinder and there is no comparison. It is trouble free, heat free, and much more comfortable to drive.

That is how I feel about my trike that I have owned since new in Dec 09.

Anyone who wants to can buy my 2007 ULTRA now.

Love my 2013 try glide best bike iv ever owned and ridden

Every bike I've ever owned was the best bike I'd ever owned - - - up until I bought the next one. ThumbUp :D

I had more fun on my 2012 TG then I had on all my previous bikes put together. Hope fully I can say the same thing on my 2014TG - if I ever get to ride it. Temps are going to be in the 40's next week - WOOHOO! finally. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to program the GPS for the way I want it. But reading all the posts here it's not looking very good. :cxtv:

That is really sad if true.......and expensive. I think I'd give up riding if all I did was ride around town.

ThumbUp

I'd get a Vespa to do that. :D

Don't know about CR Ratings, But the worst bike/trike i ever had the displeasure of owning over the last 45 years was the CanAm spyder. Just thinking about BRP Makes me want to...:gah:
Ditto Ditto Ditto :NoJoke: From a former owner of a 2012 RT A/C SEM5

Just thought I would mention the term "Jap" is a insult . The people of Japan view it about the same way as being called sub human. I know this based on my son being married to a japanese national. The term was a term used in WW2 and was a intended insult.

I though Jap meant Jewish American Princes. I use to work with one. She was a very intelligent and a beautiful lady that liked it when I called her "My Jap". Of course she new it was meant as a compliment and that I had a great deal of respect for her.

I understand how you feel though. Some people are sensitive and sometimes for very good reasons. Fortunately I am not one of the sensitive types.

I got that knocked out of me many years ago. My folks subscribed to the Bill Cosby philosophy. As one of ten rug rats I knew they could make another one just like me.

As far as C R goes I canceled my subscription years ago. I have no respect for a group that list the 2014 Jeep Wrangler as a piece of junk because it does not ride as good as they would like on the highway. Or a F250 as a bad choice since it does not get 30mpg.

I own a Goldwing because my wife's back injury is sensitive to the vibration of the Tri-Glides V Twin.

As for Harley: They must be doing something right. I have never seen Yamaha tattooed on anyone's chest.

Its true, all a person has to do is start checking odometers on used bikes and trikes at the dealer and you'd be surprised at how low the mileage really is. A couple years a go I looked at an 03 V-Rod which at the time was 9 years old, it had a crowd pleasing 5,000 miles on it. When I had a good relationship with the dealer I bought all my Harley's from I borrowed a used 04 Ultra Classic which at the time was 4 years old, it had 11,000 miles on it.

A good may of the people on forums are enthusiast who get out and ride, hang around on a Goldwing forum for awhile and you'll find people who have 200,000+ on their bikes and folks who put 100k on in as few as 3 years.

It is not the miles you put on them, it is the miles you ENJOY on them! Harleys have ALWAYS done that for me.;)
