Pleasantly surprised by the 2013 GW Clutch!!

Really? In what way? The clutch on my 2005 seems very smooth. To me at least.

It should be smooth, it is hydraulic.

Even my '86 shifts fairly smooth, EXCEPT when I screw up!!

That is one of the areas that Honda did a lot of research and development and made it worthwhile. If you maintain the oil and don't try to do truck pulls with your Wing the clutch should last almost as long as the bike.

The clutch on my 12 is like butter, I rode an 05 last summer and the clutch on it was also butter smooth.
