I am chasing the source of a knocking noise. Grasping at straws.

Only seems to do it when the trike has been sitting for awhile. Then restarted in neutral at idle with the parking brake on. Its been checked out twice . It seems to be body shake hitting something but Im not sure. Runs fine , goes away. Sits awhile and does it again.

Im calling the harley shop again on Monday and telling them I need them to find the problem and fix it once and for all. I love the trike a lot. I hate this problem.

Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for? I know there are a ton of places on a bike / trike that could cause a knocking noise by a part hitting on another part. I don't notice any excess vibration when riding . Once warmed up and going it seems to be fine. Only seems to knock at idle. Worse when the parking brake or front or rear brakes are applied. Not coming from the primary or engine to my knowledge.

If all else fails ill ride it until something breaks. Its under warranty.

I know it couldn't be this simple...

You are running at least 91 octane fuel, or failing that, an octane booster in every tank, right? That's about as basic as it gets, and can cause knocking at idle, and not when riding. That kind of knocking and pinging can sound just like something is hitting something else.

Thanks for the reply. It is definitely something knocking about with the body or something underneath hitting on something else. The engine does not knock or ping at all that I can tell. I have never heard the engine do either. It really runs well and idles pretty smoothly as well.

I had a similar issue. In my case it was a squeak. Turned out to be one of the heat guards. Tightened the clamp and issue was resolved. Hope they find yours quickly. Things like that can be irritating.
