I have a Garmin Zumo 550 and would like to wire it so the sound comes thru the headset. If so, how would you wire it. Right now I have it plugged in to the cig. lighter and needless to say you cannot hear the voice promps.

Thanks
Bill

Bill the only thing that comes to mind is to tie into the plug on your trike where your lower cord plugs in. If your GPS has an audio out plug, I assume you could just 'tap" in. Here's a link for the plug wiring. This is for a Wing but I imagine the pins are the same. If you can figure which ones are for the intercom, your GPS would overide the stereo, CB ect. Good luck and let us know what you come up with. Ride safe...

Thanks for the info. I do have an e-mail to J&A, just waiting to hear back.

Even if it comes thru the bike speakers would be okay.

On my Suzuki C50T my Garmin 450 was wired to the battery with a in line fuse in the middle. That powered the unit and had a helmet with speakers on both sides. That received the sound from the cable running from the helmet speakers to the audio out on the garmin mount. Music came from the SD card in the Garmin. It was direction priority. When the voice came on to give directions, the music would stop. After directions were over, music would re start.

Now that I have a wing with built in speakers and its own amp I have a 12V cigarette ligher power source in the left faring pocket and the audio plug to go into the garmin as well.

If you have the standard Ultra radio, you only need to get a "patch cord" with 1/8" male plugs on both ends at any electronics place like Radio Shack, Fry's, etc. There's a plug on the left side of the Zumo mount under a rubber flap. Plug into that, run the cable across under the fairing cap, & plug into the aux input on the lower right corner of your HD radio. This allows you to select which band you're listening to with the mode select control on the right grip. When you want to listen to "Ms Zumo" select "Aux". This, unfortunately shuts off AM, FM, CD, & Weather, but you'll get "Ms Zumo" just fine. I tried to figure out a way to tie it in so it would pop in & over ride whatever I was listening to, but finaly gave up on that idea. If you want to use a MP3, it plugs in the same place -- Aux input. What I would like to see some make is a "dongle" that plugs into the HD system where the head set plugs into that'd allow us to use a bluetooth headset in the helmets & do away with that stupid cord.

I have the Garmin Zumo 450. It is powered by running the power cable directly from the mount to the accessory pins in the fuse box. However, how it is powered should not be a factor whether or not you can listen to directions and music through your headset. I have run a ground loop isolator from the right angle plug in the left front glove box to the mini plug on the garmin mount and can listen to directions either through the headset or from the speakers on the bike depending whether I have the AUX on the bike set to the speakers. By changing the position on the Aux you can listen through the headset.

This is assuming you have a goldwing. Doesn't everyone.

When I had a Suzuki I installed an external amp with speakers on the bike and listened to directions and music through the bikes speakers.

The garmin voice directions override the music whether I am listening to music from the SD card in the Garmin or from the trikes radio system FM, AM or the weather band. Once the lady starts giving me directions it automatically cuts-out all other info and gives directions, way points etc. When the unit is done with directions, it automatically plays the music or whatever from the Garmin, FM, AM or the weather band station.

I have the Garmin mount wired to the accessories connection in the fuse box for power and the right angle plug under the left fairing glove box for audio.

If you are using the Garmin 550 handlebar mount, there's a standard 1/8" output port on the left side. I used a short patch cord (male one end, female on the other) plugged it into the GPS mount port, ran the cord down the handlebar, back along the frame under the gas tank to the space between the tank and the seat and tie-wrapped it to the frame. When I want to use audio on the GPs I just plug my headphones/headset into the female jack and have at it. Just try to remember to unplug when you get off the trike.
