GPS Anti Theft Device??

When your GPS (expensive little gadget) is mounted on your bike it would really be a bummer to have it stolen while you enjoy your Happy Meal or are gassing up and visiting the facilities.

Sure, you can unmount the thing, unhook it and stick it in your pocket - and then a few minutes later reverse the entire process - but that gets to be a pain several times a day.

So - fellow paranoid trikers - what's your favorite method of securing, or theft-proofing your GPS to your bike?

(Let's not talk about "locking the GPS" - that only makes it useless to the thief after it's stolen.)

I unhook my GPS and Ham Radio every time it's time for lunch. I rather take it off than have some thief do damage to my trike just to get it.

I agree with Oldbiker. I would rather take it with me than have someone cause damage to my trike getting it off.

My Tom Tom Rider has a nice wired mount that I just clip and unclip for fast removal when leaving trike. Of course also using spoiler password protection too. But you didn't want to hear about that.

Take it with you, There's no way if some one wants it to stop them from taking it.

I take mine off and stow it in the trunk. Takes less than a minute. No amount of alarms will deter a determined thief.

My Zumo 550 goes in the trike trunk if I'm going to be away from the trike for more than a couple of minutes. I replaced the security scew/tool assembly with a thumbscrew I bought on line. Doesn't take more than a few seconds to unscrew, unsnap and place in the trunk. I have a J&M audio/CB mounted on the handlebar also. When I put the
GPS in the trunk I take out the weather cover and slip it over the J&M. "out of site, out of mind".

These folks make a great lockable mount for your GPS, a bit pricey but a well made product. I have one and love it, it also is rubber isolated to reduce vibration.

I agree, I also use Touratech mount for my Zumo 550. IMO, well worth the $$$

Looks like a fine product, but they don't make one for the Garmin 1490T and if they did, judgine by the price of the Zumo mount, it would cost half again the price of the GPS! (But if I had a $600 Zumo, it would be worth it!)

The best way to keep yout GPS safe is to either take it with you in your pocket or put it in your saddle bag/tour pak.

Best and cheapest device is made by Smith and Wesson and the shells are only a quarter apiece.

Agreed. Bt if I'm only going to pop into MxDonald's for an iced coffee - ten minutes at the most - I don't want to go through the unhook-rehook deal. How about a vinyl-covered stranded steel cable that attaches through a glue-on (2000 lb pull) loop an the GPS and locks to a glue-on mount somewhere on the bike near the windshield (similar to locking a laptop to a table leg)? I just located a couple of those on the net.

I recognize that a determioned thief with a set of bolt cutters will capture the prize, but in daylight, at a fast food place, with people constantly coming and going, with a visible anti-theft device???

Most security measures are to slow some lowlife down from basically a snatch and run. Every since I bought my Zumo 665 I secure a wire tie between the release button and the mounting body. I DO cut the wire tie at night, securing it in the tour-pac, putting another one on the next day.

Another thing when traveling I will put my helmet over the GPS while stopped eating or such......kinda the ole "out of sight, out of mind".

I pick up a 100 pack of quality, assorted color, wire ties at a local supply house for $5.00. Cheap security
