I have bought numerous 'cut-to-fit' carpet kits for the trunks for my various GW's and it seems all of them arrive with a VERY STRONG odor resembling a combination of rubber and new carpet fibers.
Anyone else experience this and if so, what is the fix to eliminate the odor?

Forget to remove a doggy bag from a restaurant for about 3 days in the Texas sun.....I guarentee that'll fix it, but you may wish it woukd come back.
Ask me how i Know:AGGHH:

Yes, I have noticed the odor before after buying new rug! I soaked a paper towel with vanilla and left it in the trunk for a few days. Now it smells like a bakery!

Throw em' in the Dryer with scented dryer sheets for a little while.....I did this on some Genuine Hondas once and it worked pretty well.....ThumbUp

This works really good. you can also put them out in the sun for a few days this will cook out the odors or wash them by hand with only water and dry using rice.
I like the idea of the dryer.

I didn't use rubber-backed carpet to line either of my trikes. So, I never had the "rubber smell'. Used regular household carpet that I cut to fit and installed with spray glue.

Might try the old granny remedy for ridding a home of foul ordors - fill a glass dish full of vinegar and leave it in the trunk for a couple of days. Might rid the rubber odor and might not but I do know that overnight it will absorb any odors I have in my house - including fried onions and liver.
