I am new here and need some help. I just purchased a used 2000 GL1500 with a Motortrike conversion. It has a Rake Kit for the Triple Tree and the only information I can find on it is the words The Trike Shop. For a like of better terms it is "Self Centering", it has a bent to keep it centered. On straight roads and light curves it is great but on small curves it takes some getting used to. Does anyone have any experience with this kit?

Welcome to Trike Talk Michael!!!If I understand what your saying its abit hard to turn the bars.First I would raise the front wheel off the ground and turn the bars.If it feels notchy then I would say you need new head bearings. The other thing is is this your first trike? If so some reading here might help https://www.triketalk.com/forum/forums/421-Rider-Safety-Forum There are threads about going from 2 to 3 wheels that may be of help.

Sorry for the confusion. It has a detent to center the forks the best I can tell. I don't think it is a bearing problem because it always returns to center every time you turn in either direction. It takes a little effort to come off center but it turns smooth in either direction once you start to turn. If I am setting still on the trike it takes a little effort to start to turn the handle bars but once I have moved off center it is smooth to turn, when I come back close to center it will center it's self. This is not my first or only trike. I also own a GL1800 with a CSC trike kit and raked front end. it is not like this.

Thanks for the reply. this is not my first or only trike, I also have a 2004 GL1800 with a CSC trike conversion. I have raised the front wheel off the ground and it is very smooth once you move off center but as you come back close to center it will center it's self. I have ridden it at highway speeds and does fine just takes some getting used to.

You've described bad steering head bearings. They develop a notch in the straight ahead position, because that's where they ride the most. Or someone way over torqued them brindling the bearing .

+ 1……Head bearing….

+2. You are giving a very good description of notched steering head bearings. Once they are notched like that, they cannot be adjusted to correct the problem. They need to be replaced.
