Gl 1500 home built suspension

Looking for info on converting GL 1500, already have body, am able fabricator, planning solid axle, would appreciate, any pic's and or drawings, links, axle recommendations, ratios etc. As well as any advice and or warnings. Not a nube, or novice, see other post in homebuilt trikes. Just want to gather info before I start, want to do it right the first time.

Good Morning Dave. You might find some good info in this manual http://www.junkmaster.com/kj5ix/MTServiceManual.pdf

I don't know for sure what rear end Motor Trike uses (hopefully someone will know and chime in) but I seem to recall it is from a early 80s Mustang or Pinto. I do know a few guys with the Spider kit on GL1800s and they have a 3.08 ratio differential. :xszpv::xszpv:

Good luck with the build.

the key to drivetrain, from my meager understanding, is to find the final ratio that is close to the original bike. That includes the diff and mating tire size. Wish I had the facilities to take on that kind of project but I don't.

Honda GL1500 rear is 2.83 as I recall, but the 160/80-16 rear tire is a bit shorter than anything you are likely to want on a trike.

Taller tires like 215/70-15 or 245/60-15 ..... use 3.08:1 rear.

Shorter tires like 215/60-15 use a 2.93 .... etc.

If all you want is slow mountain riding, go 3.55, 3.73, 4.11 .... (I always wondered what she'd be like with 4.11s .... :D  :D)

Below pic is on a 1997 GL1500 / Lehman trike with 3.08 Ford rear axle (Ford 6.75" ring gear from like a Pinto) using 215/70-15 tires at GPS 64 mph.
