Last week Saturday (04-05-2014) we woke to 2 1/2" of sewer and storm water in our basement!!! Called the plumber he said we have a cracked pipe under the floor of our 100 year old home!! Then called the insurance company. "yep, you're covered"... Good... Sent SERVPRO out to make it "Like it never even happened"... They took pics, wrote an estimate, gave me a bunch of boxes. Told me to call them when the repair to the sewer pipe was completed. They will sanitize everything AFTER the repair is complete. OK.
I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to FLAT surfaces... if there is a flat surface, I'll find something to put on it!! Lots of little things that only I know what to do with. Next comes the insurance adjuster. Very nice young man, gave you the feeling that everything was gonna be OK. Gave him the estimate, he deducted my deductable and sent the balance to our checking account. Great! Well the Plumber I'm using can't be back 'til later this week. That's ok since I'm still getting those horizontal surfaces cleared off!! I'm logging anything "soft" that may have absorbed anything from the clogged water.
One pair of Acoustic Research AR-3 speakers, replacement cost: $1100.00. and the list goes on. The water was pumpud out but we're still getting some seepage. Anyway, finally have started to get ahead of everything. Went to a meeting (Mean Colleen & I) this Sat. evening. Came home to one of the worst storms that Marine City & East China has had in the last 75 years!! Had to be 50-75 trees pulled out of the ground, 125 year old pines snapped half way up the trunk!! Several cars destroyed, many homes damaged. No one injured, thank goodness.
BUT all of East China, Marine City and Algonac are without power! So I finally was able to borrow a genset and have the two refers and deep freeze back up and running. My wife is doing her computer work by the light of a Coleman lantern!! Needless to say, things haven't been real smooth around here for the past week or so, I'm not complaining (well, maybe a little) I'm always the "glass half full" guy. I guess I still am but I'm looking at that glass a little closer LATELY!!! So, How Was Your Week???
