Generator not giving correct volts

I have a 2002 custom built VW Trike with a 1971 super beetle engine. We have tried everything from batteries(3), voltage regulator(3), new wiring, generator (2), starter, polarization more times than I can count. I just can’t seem to get her to hold a charge!!!!

Check all your wiring.

Check the ground strap, typically on trans nose to chassis.

To test:

1) With the ignition key ON, unplug blue wire going to the regulator '61' terminal. The GEN lamp should not light. The GEN lamp should light when the blue wire is grounded to the regulator case. Reconnect after testing. And yes the GEN light is part of the charging.

2) With the engine running at a fast idle, connect a voltmeter between the generator D+ terminal (+) and ground (-). Mind the spinning fan belt. You should read between 13.8 and 14.4 volts.

3) Connect the voltmeter between the regulator terminal 61 and ground. You should measure the same 13.8 to 14.4 volts.

4) Measure from the regulator Df terminal to ground. It should be less than battery voltage by a few volts. Under slow speed operation, it could reach 0 volts. It will fluctuate with engine speed.

Are we talking goes dead over night? Which would be a parasitic drain,or goes dead on the road. Do you have any gauges to monitor the situation, if so what are they reading.
