G'day from the land downunder

Hi All

For about the last 12 months I have been working on building an electric trike from scratch, and whilst I am far from new to bikes, I am brand new to trikes and thought I could benefit from joining a forum community dedicated to just that.

Recently I have been trying to sort out the rear suspension and have come across a number of hurdles in my particular build.

Unlike most of you (if not all), my motor will be directly connected through a torque tube to the 9" diff I am going to use, which presents all sorts of issues.

Since the very beginning of the build I have flipped between the idea of solid mounted (on rubber bushes), some form of 4 link, and IRS.

Not being a native of the US everything has to be freighted to Oz which can be expensive to say the least, and can effect the parts available for purchase.

Anyway here is a link to a summary of the parts I have so far on EV Album Paul Murray's 2010 Electric Bike

I will seek a bit of a hand on the best choice in the apropriate section down the track.

Welcome to TrikeTalk! We have several members from Oz here, and we are very happy to welcome you to the family too! I'm impressed --- building an electric trike! Please keep us updated with lots of pictures and news -- You've done an impressive lot already, based on looking at your picture link.

Thanks Nana still a long way to go... I could made my own life a lot easier by not making my own girder front end, but I am a bit of a masochist.

I'm thinking about scraping the housing and axles and going IRS even though it will cost about another $3k in parts. With the motor attached to the 3rd member any change in the pinion angle or lower control arms means the motor moves also, which is proving to be a logistical nightmare.

Welcome aboard and good luck on the project. It's a great concept.

:wave4: Welcome to Trike Talk! This is going to be a very interesting build. Please keep us posted with updates of your progress and pictures. I look forward to seeing the finished project.

Thanks guys, I have to admit, I am kind of excited to see what it turns out like myself. At the moment I only have a conceptual idea of the finished product. With so many variables and road blocks it could well wind up taking on a whole different look to what I envisage.

I plan to do the fibreglass body myself that will go over the frame, but this is just one of the potential visions I see it turning out like.

Hi all yet another from the land of OZ (downunder) iam currently riding an Orange 2007 Goldwing two wheeler, and would love to go to three wheels. Is their anyone in Australia who can do good conversions at an affordable price? Or is their someone in the U.S.who would like to bring a trike to OZ for a holiday and sell it before you go home, no problems with accomadation while you are here. What i would like is a 2008 onwards Goldwing White or Yellow preferable with comfort and audio pack and Aqua shields.Thats my wish list.
