One could take a stock key .... or go to the hardware and get a duplicate plain key cut (I did so on a Toyota key blank), test it for fit, and then ...

... insert it in gas door lock, mark part that is exposed, and remove key. Cut it off a half inch or so above that, and take a piece of wood or plastic, ccut a slot in the base to match stub, attach with JBWeld. The wood or plastic knob can be shaped like anything you want. Another alternative is to solder a flat round or square or triangular or octaganol shaped piece of 1/8" thick brass to the stub right above the portion that extends into the lock, say 1/16" or so. Polish it, engrave it, whatever. It'll be very flat and very unlikely to catch your leg or clothing, and always be there except when you remove it.

Or you could take a solid brass drawer pull knob, cut it in half, slot and silver solder it to that key stub. I said cut in half so that the largest part of the ball shape is near flush with the door surface.

I used a knob from Lowe's for the FLHS gas door. Gotta love the "Hard To Find" parts drawers onver in hardware. Hardest part was finding a HD key blank for a 21 year old Electraglide.

Was going to do one myself for Her Purpleness, but ran into an outfit called "The Engraver" at the Davis Rally in Iowa. They had the correct key already cut and attached to a chrome GW1500 radio knob. A bit more expensive, but compared to running around trying to find the right key for a 16 year of 'Wing with price of gas nowdays (Everywhere is a trip - I don't live in the middle of nowhere, but I can see it from here) it's probably a wash costwise.

No matter what the ride is, if there is a locking fuel door, this is a great mod.

They cut the key at the rally to match yours? I think they made mu Dash plaque. got to check them out at Americade

Had them cut an ignition key and the key already adapted and attached to a chrome radio knob for the gas door. They know what key to use - I'm told GL1500's have 2 keys depending on the year - 1500's up to '93 have the grooves opposite of the '94s and up.

I replaced my lock on the gastank with a push-button that Harley sells. As for the " Engraver" your right John they do have a booth @ Americade. I had them make up a plaque for my bike.....:Flag:
