Gas Prices- $2.04 gallon!

$1.81 last night here in Dothan. My goodness, gas is almost getting reasonable(?)! Remember when we screamed and yelled during the Iranian crisis, and gas went to an unbelievable 58 cents per gallon???? Ahhh, those were the days. I can remember growing up northwest of Detroit, and during the "gas wars" you could get regular for 18 cents a gallon, but High Test was really expensive. . .yep, 27 cents a gallon!

I also can remember 18 cents.
Nana's right old,old,old .
glacierbear is that a reference to your age. ;):D:D

I don't recall the $.18, but my first car... age 17 and the thrill when a gas war happened a block from my dorm and prices dropped at two stations down to $.23 for a few days, down from somewhere in the 32-35 cent range!!!! Filled that baby up for sure. I do think Juju and I might be younger than some of you --- in our minds, anyway :D.

Re: Gas Prices- $1.99 gallon!

Gas station in Leesburg, Florida today.........tomorrow it will probably be less!! The cheapest gas I can recall (when I lived in South Florida and there was a "gas war") it was $.19 a gallon in the late 1950's. :)

Did you say today? Where's the SNOW

Got gas here in Dobson, NC for $1.989 a gallon. I can remember pumping gas at a full service gas station in NNY for 23 cents a gallon. Now we pay the big bucks and have to pump our own! Oh the times have sure changed. Gone but not forgotten, sigh. hermit

I remember the GAS WARS then gas got down into the teens Thinking 1957 1960. and they pumped it , they gave you green stamps or a coffee cup etc. They checked your tires , your oil and cleaned the windshield. and you got change back from a $5.00 on a fill up. We didn't care that the car only got 8 to 10 miles to a gallon. Heck back then a 200 mile trip was an adventure.\ overnight vacation. :D

I also remember gas wars. Not down to 0.18 ct but here in Cal. I remember 20-25 cents.Could fill up my VW for a few dollars.

Premium in Montana today was 1.99 (YEA). I remember paying a quarter for gas in 1967 and thinking that was a great deal. For the most part it was around 32 to 33 cents. Oh how things have changed. Gas finally get affordable and the weather turns cold. Something is terribly wrong with this picture.

Re: Gas Prices- $1.99 gallon!

This was yesterday 12/5/08. Today it is $1.64.9 !! When gas was around $4.00/gallon, I remember someone on the news predicting gas would go down to $1.60/gallon (national average) before it started going back up again..........here it goes! Hope it stays for a while. :) ALSO.....notice the SUNSHINE! It's almost 60 degrees now... going up to the mid-70's.

These are great prices aren't they?

We can all remember lower prices though, can't we? Problem is...as fondly as we remember them, they were still high!

Like jim, I can remember.25 diesel and when I was in high school, we ran .19 gas. Even at that, I can't ever remember "filling 'er up". I can vividly remember scrounging pennies and nickels from friends, in order to buy a half dollars worth.

I can also remember that even though Dad had a car, we couldn't go to town, because he couldn't afford the gas. Seems he thought that somehow, food was more important.

So, when I fondly remembr those "good old day"gas prices, I too long for those prices. But I don't long for the hard times and low wages that went along with them.

Now, that old '49 Harley? Man, do I ever long for that again.

too bad gas wasn't cheap this summer when I was spending 12 to $18.00 to fill the motorcycle tank to go for a ride.

Roger that. The lowest gas price I can remember is 35 cents/gallon when I got my first car. But same thing was true--I could almost never afford to fill up the tank--and I was working! I remember lots of times getting one or two dollars worth of gas. When a guy I was dating pulled up to a station and got 5 dollars worth, wow! I thought I was in for the date of my life with this "big spender"!

They say we may see $1.00 a gallon before it goes back uo Oil at $40.00 a barrel . If it gets to $30.00 we will be in $1.00 range. :)

I saw several stations w/ $1.51 today in the Dayton, OH area. I like it!

Thought Id resurrect this old thread from back in 2008....scroll back through and LOOK at the gas prices at the time of these posts!:faint:
