gas gauge or warning options

I had full gauges on my first trike ( vw ) and reserve tank but this one has only a tach, and oil and alt idiot lights,

I would like to add a gas gauge or even just a low fuel warning,

Heres what im up against,

Wilmac style body and the cat who made the gas tank was a artist, he fit it up sort a behind driver under passenger, it holds about 8 to 10 gals, and it shaped very oddly, triangle ish and has step downs,

So a normal gauge with float on pivot arm isnt gonna work,

I saw some boat gauge senders that the float runs straight up and down a rod, that would work, but i like to cover all options,

Is there perhaps a simple way just to add low fuel warning that would be good enough,

Thanks,

Cheers

I installed lighted sight glasses in my tanks. I braized bungs at the bottom and top. I ran barbs into them and sealed a fuel-proof LED into the bottom. I ran clear fuel line between the barbs. The LED uses the gas-filled hose like a fiber optic cable -- it lights up the column and makes a bright spot at the top of the fuel level.

Thanks guys,

Good food for thought,

The fiber optics style sounds sweet, wont work in this case as the tank is hard to see even laying on ground looking up at it, sono where to see the level.

Like i said all i have is a tach on this trike, i do have a GPS for speed, but dont really use it,

Oddly after 40 years of vehicles ive never had a gas gauge fail or leave me stranded, so in my case i do trust them more than my memory from my experiences, but i have been doing the guess who much is left idea and have come too close to empty a few times, hense this thread.

A vertical vw sender, we might just have a winner if my tank has the space top to bottom to mount it,

I will have to find out how tall it is,

A big bonus, i just happen to have a new aftermarket, vw fuel gauge laying around.

Thanks all,

Cheers
