Fuel Tank Trim

I am not fond of the cheesy black plastic fuel tank trim, or of the rather useless plug. I read on another HD forum that a CVO insert will work, but they are rather expensive and not really my style. I looked around and so far could not find any after market inserts or tank trim. If I knew how to get this plastic off without destroying it I would like to try and make my own trim for the tank out of wood, similar to the floor boards that I made. So any pointers on how to get these off or links to aftermarket inserts....Please chime in.

Then while sitting on the bike pondering about the trim I thought....hey I wonder if my cell phone would fit on the trim. It fits like a glove  and seems like a perfect place to keep a cell phone on these bikes while utilizing unused but very convenient space. And even one of the larger mini tablet sized big screen phones might fit.

Now I am on a quest to find an easy way to securely attach and un-attach a phone to the trim as cleanly as possible.

Velcro will work, and you don't need do any elaborate modifications. :)

Happy Trails,
