Frustrating

As I wander through the passages of this forum, read all the comments
look at all the pics, laugh at some of the humor etc., it is most frustrating
that I'll possibly never get a chance to ride with some of the obviously fun guys on this forum.

I now realise the frustrations of my Australian counterparts who live over 2000 Km's
north of my state (Victoria) who read about our rides, but have little opportunity
to paricipate due not only to distance, but also family commitments etc.

But while it may be frustrating, it's also great to read
and share triking experiences etc., with like minded people.

I feel your frustration also. I don't think my trike will ever seen the lower 48 States. Most of my riding is Alaska and Yukon Territory. It would cost way to much to ship the trike to the States just for a couple weeks. Maybe some day. Thats why I'm really enjoying this forum. Thanks everybody for your great company on here.

Indeed we are brothers/sisters of the trike world, no matter how seperated we are. As our friends from the southern hemisphere, where it's summer, share thier rides and experiences I can vicariously ride with them as I look out onto the slowly melting snow. Same with SEAlaskan - sharing his experiences will let my spirit ride where my body most likely will never travel.

Let me know when you plan your trip up to South East Alaska. The only catch is there are no roads connecting us to the rest of the world, only way in or out is by boat or airplane. The boat trip is pricey but beautiful.

Don't get me wrong about not going to the States. When wife and I do go down it's to see the kids and GRAND KIDS that live in the States (Fort Lauderdale, Portland & Seattle areas). So if we do travel to the states it's by plane. Can't wait to go again. :yes:

Biggest 'bears' I've been in contact with are cute and cuddly Koalas. They are
misnamed Koala 'bears', but in fact are docile furry marsupials.

Puff, I quess I am really lucky..Rock has a Boss Hoss trike and we have gone to the rally in Tennessee for 3 years..we meet people from all over the country including Aussie land, where I have a good friend Rob Foster..we know people from Christchurch to Germany and Canada and Denmark..when we went to Colorado to see Rocks son graduate from the air force academy, it was unnerving (due to ex-wife) and we get back to our hotel and here is our friend that lives 100 miles from there, with his motorcycle and takes us to dinner..it was awesome to see a friendly face..thanx you WildMan!!!! we are going to a July 4th party in Ohio and meeting friends from Tennessee and Pennsylvania..In fact the Tennessee guy's name is PUFF..I hope you can ride with Pete some time..thank God for internet, we can keep in contact with friends we have met and haven't met..anyone living near Amelia, Ohio, in July we are riding with our friend Bobby..BoomBoom

The internet has opened all sorts of possibilities for travelling. Years ago we belonged to GWRRA and carried the member manual everywhere we went,with members ph. numbers. We have contacted them enroute and made some new friends. As with the internet,we can send msgs to members in the areas we are travelling and possibly get together for a ride or just a cup of coffee.

It IS some beautiful country and the trip up the Inside Passage on the state ferry system is not to be missed. We will have to try to touch base when the Chief and I make our next trip up there.

Yes, I am in Juneau, live in West Juneau. And yes it would be great to get together. I just looked at the (GWRRA) 2010 Gold Book and discovered I'm no longer listed. I'm still listed in the 2009 Gold Gook under Clayton Fleek, I think! The others in the Gold Book Juneau area all know me since we belong to the same motorcycle club.
"YES" for those who would like to see some beautful country, the inside passage is the way to go. A lot of travelers will travel Norht on the Alaska Highway and head South on the Alaska State Ferry to Bellingham, WA. and other will do the reverse.

That woman with the red 1500 GW and sidecare is "BEE" who now lives in Main. She got tired of not being able to drive out of here so she left plus the rain. I'm mad at her cause she is part of a group that fought to keep us from getting a road connecting us to main land, enough of that.

As I read your post, it isn't much different to my situation. In Australia, besides belonging to the National 3 Wheelers (Victoria) I'm a member the Ulysses M/C club (membership 28,000+Australia wide)... Each year our AGM's are in a different location. The AGM at Townsville for instance, was 2,500 Kms (about 1500 miles) from Victoria, and Alice Springs, where I attended a trike fest was a 7,000 Km (4500 Miles) round trip.

So it's not much different here, when you do a long trek like that, one can 'touch base' with so many interesting and diverse characters, and as you say, the internet can maintain that contact.

Saddest part is that even tho you get to meet those people face to face, chances of touching base with them again is only a remote possibllity. But at the time, through the common interest of trike or bike, your world becomes just that little bit more special.

This very forum has opened up a new Pandora's box of names that you almost 'feel' you know after a few posts (such as this). As I tell a lot of my mates in their 60's, it is vitally important to squeeze as much into your life as is possible. A 90 year old said at one of our AGM's after receiving the award for the oldest rider when asked the question, "Why do you still ride at your age?" He paused for a moment, then said:
"Everybody dies, but not everybody lives!"

My belief is not as deep and meaningful, because I liken life to a toilet roll... the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes. Just gotta push it to the max

I know what you mean Puff..I am 63 and don't know where the time went..My dad lives in Bushnell, Florida and rides a GW trike and he is 84..I do have friends I ride with here, about 25 or more and my regulars I ride with, there are 5 trikes..might ride sunday suppose to be 45 degrees..warmer saturday but I have to work..Boom

Hale sounds familiar. Your brother and my brother (Bill Fleek) probably worked together. Brother Bill retired from NOAA Marine Fisheries about three years ago. He worked in the Federal building, he was one of their programers. Boy, your sis-in-law is busy.
Yes, the Juneau Pioneers Home is an out standing place, Dad spent he's last few years there and the staff were wonderfull.
