So what tire is everyone using on the front?.
Need info for a Sportster 883 with Frankenstine rear

John most of the posting are for touring GW's and Touring HD. I do not recall any posts for a sportser conversion. Good luck

Make or model doesn't make a heck of a lot of difference. If a Michelin Commander II is good for a touring bike, it will be just as good for a Sporty. Same goes for other brands of tires. I was just using the commander as an example. Ask yourself this. If a particular tire is good on a Ford, will it be just as good on a Chevy?

Just put a Metzler 888 on the front of my wife's Sportster Champion trike. I have run both the Metzler 880's and the Michelin Commander II's on my 2 wheeler with good results. Both were significant improvements over the stock Dunlops.

Don't even go there....Comparing a Ford to a Chevy...

I have a '12 Triglide, and I got tired of the Dunlop catching every little grove, and only having a little over an inch tread patch on the pavement, I have change all three to Michelin, with a Michelin Commander REAR tire on my front wheel. over twice the tread patch on the pavement, steers better, also, ordered it from Dennis kirk. Have Michelin Supreme AS on rear.

Just put a Metzler rear tire on the front of the Tri-Glide today. Will report after a while how I'm liking it.

The couple hundred miles I put on it today was better than the worn dunlop front that was on it.

Just got an American Elite rear for the front of the Triglide, but haven't mounted it yet. Probably get a couple thousand more on the stock 402 first.

Rear tire seems like a good way to go based on what I've read so far. Deeper tread to begin with, designed for center wear primarily, and a higher load rating, although I don't believe that would ever be of any significant benefit for this application.

I have wondered whether tread pattern was a concern when putting a rear on the front and running it in reverse direction. Interestingly on the American Elite, the rear in reverse rotation matches the tread pattern of the front in normal rotation. I felt a little reassured by this, for what it's worth. Maybe it's of no significance.

I did the same thing but went with the Dunlop 402 rear tire. I talked with the Tech's at Dunlop before doing this and they said the higher load rating sidewalls of the rear tire would benefit me in hard (panic) stops because of the amount of load weight shifting to the front during hard stops. They also said that the depth of the thread was nearly as important as the design in preventing hydroplaning.
