Front bearing retrofit?

Had been told that earlier Stallions had a front wheel bearing issue about every 5,000 miles. Can't remember what model year(s) the dealer told me was affected.

I'm thinking about buying a 2009 that I have found.

I asked the dealer about the issue and was told that it had been updated and so that was not an issue with this one.

My question is...did people (do people) update (retrofit) whatever part of the front end to fix this?

Also, what issues did 2009's have? (If any.)

Thanks for any input.

I had one of the original 25 sold in 08 and now have not heard about a front wheel bearing going out every 5k miles. We now have unit 406 and I repacked the wheel bearings at 50k no worn out issue. Most of the bugs were long taken care of by the 09 year. By the way there is only one model of the Stallion. A few were built if the ability to select options but the vast majority of the Stallions were fully loaded as that was how they were sold. Go for it especially if the price is right.

I looked at an 09, but after reading the fine print, it didn't have air or a bunch of other stuff you have come to expect on these machines.

On the front wheel you have 2 bearings on each side of the wheel. First, there is the brake caliper mount bearing. You can see the seal for it when looking down at the wheel hub. This bearing is about 3 inches in diameter and carries very small ball bearings. This bearing would not support the front weight of the Stallion. This is the bearing that has been known to fail. My original one lasted about 1100 miles.

Now the wheel bearing is a tapered roller bearing. It is about the size of a small utility trailer bearing. It is buried deep inside the hub. The only way to access it is to remove the wheel, then remove the 5 bolts securing the hub to the wheel. I doubt even one of these bearings has failed on the Stallion.

Frequently there is a comment on the board about wheel bearings, but they are really referring to the brake caliper mount bearing. This bearing is sealed and the only way I can see that anyone could get any grease into it is using a needle injector on a grease gun, force it under the seal. Hope this helps.

Nice job of clarification but I only have replied with reference to the Wheel bearings not the Caliper mount bearings. And yes they can fail. I replaced one at 50k. THe WHEEL bearings can be removed and repacked like we used to do in the old days. Still do on trailers.

There was a guy on this forum that last posted mid year last. STALLION TECH out of Conway Arkansas. Said he used to work for the company. Have not heard him lately. Might try PMing him.

Front bearings on Stallion

Can someone please relate exactly how many bearings in the front wheel AREA...including the wheel bearing, caliper, etc?

Do they have part numbers? Where can they be purchased and their cost, would be nice...lol

Thanks in advance, Ron

Ron what I do is take them apart and go down to NAPA they read the number on the old bearing then order it for me. I believe there are 4 bearings in the wheel and 2 in the fork for the triple trees.

Thanks for the "backup", Ted. I know a couple of you explained this already, but thank you for making it crystal and basic. We used to visit my wife's aunt down your way in Largo. She had a few homes in the Ocean Reef Club, but that's another story. Nice to meet another "Blue Knight" as well. Be safe out there.
