On June 14, 1777, the flag of the United States was adopted by resolution of the Second Continental Congress, bringing us to today's annual celebration of Flag Day!

It is also the U.S. Army's 243rd birthday... The U.S. Army was founded on June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized enlistment of riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year. The 14 June date is when Congress adopted "the American continental army "after reaching a consensus position in The Committee of the Whole."
