Yeah, we had one, she made the city a lot of money. Either in nickles dimes and quarters or in fines.

In my home town, (maybe 1975ish) there was an OLD biker,
probably in his 40s:laugh: who rode a trike.
It was probably a Harley rigid frame hooked to what I thought was a vw
engine. The whole thing was painted bright orange except for the the
pony keg gas tank.
Later I would hear that it was a Porshe rear end instead of a VW.
Local rumor said that before he put the wheelie bars on the back,
the first time he popped a wheelie, he flipped it all the way over.
That would have explained the dents in the pony keg.

i think i first noticed motorised trikes when living in New Zealand/ New Zealand is an interesting place mechanicaly because back then it was fairly isolated,, and new cars were very expensive, as a result there are a lot of old rare cars there that still get driven regularly. unfortunately the govt finally let in japanese imports and the old cars are disappearing.. it also taught the people there to be quite adaptive and creative in rebuilding cars and bikes out of bits from a collection of other vehicles.
V8 trikes and VW were the most common, but you also saw itsetta and mecherschmit (bad spelling) eastern european 3 wheelers. even the occasional Reliant Robin which im not sure if the British class as a Trike or a car. The MC;s of the day seemed to like the V8 ones. and everyone loves the sound of a V8.
this is a reliant robin.. you have to drive carefully or they tip onto a front corner.

like so

I saw one and road it in 1989 in Huntsville. The guy said "take it around the corner". I barely got out of the parking lot not being experienced on how to turn those things. My buddy told me he would never ride one of those things and if he got that old he would just stop riding. I told him if I ever got too old to throw my leg over 2 wheels I'd get a trike in a minute and ride until I couldn't. I got one 2 yrs ago while I still could get my leg over 2 wheels and love it. I'm selling my 2 wheel because I just can't stay off my trike. They were very rare in 1989 but now as the riding population ages we see more and more of them. I love mine like I am sure alot of you folks do.

My neighbor back in the 60's had a Harley servicar that had a V8 in it and took me for a ride. That was my first ride on a trike though they wern't called trikes then.

The first trike I ever owned was a Kaw 340cc ATC.. 1982?, Then I got a few Honda ATC's over the years...
Just got rid of my last Honda big red a few years ago, Now I have a Polaris Quad and a Rhino side-By..

San Antonio Texas police use to have Servi-cars when I was a kid.

I bought a 72 Servi-car that they sold to a dealer at an auction back in 78.

Planned to customize it to have a double back seat for the wife & son, he was 4 at the time and we rode 3 up on my Sportster. Never got done to much spent on alcohol. Sold it in 80 or 81.

I saw my first trike when I was about 6 or 7. Our local police had a few police trikes in the 50s and 60s. The first modern one that I saw was at Wing Ding about 14 years ago. I said that I would never own one. How ignorant we can be sometimes. I cannot believe all of the fun that we have had on ours and all of the beautiful places that it has taken us to. NEVER SAY NEVER!

Uncle Harkie (actually my Dad's uncle) had a delivery Servicar with the name of his store and a bunch of Finnish written on the box in the UP of Michigan in the late 50's and early 60's. Looking back it probably wasn't really practical as the Upper Peninsula of Michigan seems to have 4 seasons: Winter, June, July and August. Didn't seem unusual at the time, it was just part of the family. The first trike I noticed as something other than a delivery or police vehicle was in the first Billy Jack movie "The Born Losers" in 1967. I was especially struck by the radical handlebars.

:qpnmt::qpnmt:A friends dad had a custom (what else) VW trike back in the '70's. He told me its fate a couple years ago. Was sitting in a work yard of a business he owned. Someone crashed through fence and wrecked trike. Still in a garage in pieces. He won't part with it. That said, at around 80 years young, he still shows up on a motorcycle to watch our softball games. The team is called The Bozos. Big surprise, I know.:qpnmt:

I was at the Vermont General store. 3 trikes from Pa pulled in pulling tailors. Honda Goldwings. 1988. That is when I saw what I wanted. Took 11 years and 4 motorcycles.

St. Louis Metro Police HD Servi-Car, back when I was a kid. Later, VW trikes started popping up here and there.

My uncle was an Austin PD officer and he had the issued HD PD service model in the early 60s. They were used to patrol downtown area. Also had a friend that had a VW trike in the 70s that he loved. My ex wife also loved it, wonder what happened to them?

Really don't know the first I ever saw, but the first I ever paid attention to was a servicar I saw in 1968. One of the officers in my squadron had it and it was beautiful. I got to take it for a ride and I gotta say it looked a lot better than it rode, but I liked it just the same. After that, I always thought, someday. Well after 45+ years on 2 wheels someday arrived and I couldn't be happier.

first trike i seen was back about 1980. it was a kawasaki 900 that was converted. the back was made like an old timber box with strips of cast iron plate for decoration around the edges and the seat area was done in maroon velvet to match the colour of bike. i feel in love with it and said i would have my own one day. i got mine 9 years ago. trikes have never been big here in australia but they are growing.

Around 1967 a friend had a sweet Triumph 650 converted to a hard tail trike with a nice wood flat bed our back. Very few trikes running around Ariz. in those days so this one really stood out.
