I finally got all the parts to do my first oil change. The change was real easy. Why would someone pay $150 to do this? The only problem I had was jacking up the trike. I ran the front wheel up a ramp and then I jacked up each side and put a stand under the rear wheels. Not the best idea, but it worked. By the way I used Mobil 10/40 4T racing oil. Now I heard the it would make the transmission quieter. It did seem quieter, but am I looking for it? Like the old saying "If your looking for it, you'll find it"

I use spectro 4 it was the original factory required oil for GoldWings.

it usually comes out same colorish inside parts like new no GU very clean inside.

the $150 thing can be spent on a oil change just on parts if you buy the right parts. spectro 4 is $40 a gallon and worth every penny. don't forget the 6 iridium spark plugs $60 adds up quick huh. then there is fork oil which should be changed with engine oil, then the oil filter.

Trikes is heavier and require the absolute best products you can buy, in this case afford does not enter into the equation. $150 sounds about right for parts but if that includes labor at a shop go somewhere else.

you spent enough to buy 2 cars on your trike skimping now is very bad. that shop using low grade stuff. :AGGHH:

Besides these things are so easy to do it just take time and something to sit on.

Good job doing it your self ThumbUp

I only use 20w 50w, 10w to thin youll hear everything.

I usually don't need to jack mine up to just change oil the trike stance leans a little foward anyway, for rear clearance the stand only used for checking level of oil, oh wait i'm going to take that off maybe, it makes a great underside protection.

You sure can't got wrong with that oil and yes I expect you are really noticing reduced noise and smoother shifting. AMSOIL is my choice but that is exactly what it is....

I'm not sure why you are lifting the trike up so high unless you just want the extra room. I roll my front wheel up on a 2 X 6 board which lets me get the drain pan under and also access the drain bolt and oil filter.

I'm not sure where Triwinggirl is getting the spark plug and fork oil portions of her equation. Plugs last at least 32K and fork oil will go that far easily also. I won't embarrass myself by telling you my maintenance schedule. I'm coming up on 100K on the '06 (had 65K on my '01) without a problem so I'll keep to my schedule and use the extra for gas money!!

Congrats on the ride. Be Safe!!!!

I need to lift it up high enough to get a drain pan underneath.

Hmmmm..I know little to nothing about trikes, but I have 3 wings....not in my wildest dreams would I change the fork oil at every engine oil change!:AGGHH:
Unless there is something I need to learn...(I'm always willing to listen),but I don't get this one?

Ive been changing my own oil and most repairs, On my vehicles since i was 16, And i used to think the same, Then about about a year ago i said to myself while changing my oil on my previous Trike, Why do i need to change my own oil at 66, The next trike i get I'll gladly pay my dealer to do it. And that's the way it's been with my 11t/g for the last year.
