I've gone and done it now. I closed the deal on the new to me trike. I will be exchanging $$$ Thurs and pick up trike Saturday. I feel like a 12 year old getting ready for his 1st date. Are there any must have add-ons other than those I mentioned before? I'm thinking about a heel/toe shifter and a rear luggage rack. The dealer mentioned adding a steering fork brace which he said improves handling, and a self balancer for the front wheel. Are these worth while? What is the proper settings for the air shocks. Any other general advice is appreciated....Alan

I know you're excited and you're gonna love it. If you want info on a fork brace, go to Super Brace's forum here in the sponsors forums section and PM Chris. They pretty well invented the fork braces for Gold Wings and can answer any question you have.

CONGRATS, forum member Skuuter has an on going thread on the fork brace. See it under this Honda Title. If you have large feet the heel/toe shifter may get in the way. Check it out first.

First get the trike , get to know her , like the first date <LOL> never used either on my trike but not saying either is necessary or not . Others can speak for them better than I. Glad your on board , the best option is a digital camera to take pictures of your date for our family album . Go easy for the first 200 miles.I suggest no passenger on the first few at least. Read the new rider info in the forum it is very well thought out and answers plenty questions and gives a lot of pre info sort of like your DAD/ Mom did . Glad you decided not to sit it out and dance ..

Have fun with it. Don't have a Wing, so my input wouldn't help much. Although mine came with a toe-heel. I use the heel, only to keep my boots from getting the shifter burn. Other than that, it's 6 of one half dozen of the other......

Way-to-go XFDr!! You are now a full fledged member of the nicest bunch of
3-W riders around...seriously. I forgot, but where are you located? Does yr kit have a easy-steer rake kit? That I believe is worth the cost. But as John said, dont do anything for a couple or 3 hundred miles. Then you will have got comfortable with yr rig & know exactly what you want. Me, I took off the shifter & converted to HID lights since we do a fair bit of darkness riding.

I took my Kuryakyn heel-toe shifter off, as that's not my thing. So I can let you have one cheap if you're interested. It came off a rarely used 03 GL that I bought in 09 with barely 4k miles on it.

Congratulations on the GW purchase! We got our 08 GW 1800 with a CSC conversion last September and have nearly 19K miles on it now! We had two HDs, but decided it was more fun to travel on one - welcome to TT and hope we can meet up one day!!

First let me thank everybody for the warm welcome and good advice. My plan is to have the trike serviced (fluids) filters checked/replaced and steering brace added. Anything else will await my becoming more familiar with the machine.<br />
Someone asked if it came with the 4.5 degree rake and it did. I need/want to buy a modular helmet with speakers rather than my current solid one. Does bluetooth work well on these? Any advice on clothes or boots. Are these things critical on a trike? Sorry for all the questions but you know.......Thanks again for the help. Oh I'm in northern calif. About 25 miles north of the GG bridge.

I believe I'll be the only trike for miles.....bummer......Alan

Congrats on your new trike, you are wise to take your time on the extra stuff. It is easy to end up in the poor house by adding all the stuff. Make a list, prioritize it.<br />

1) Safety Items (tires, brakes, etc.)<br />
2) Mechanical Items<br />
3) Comfort Items (seats, pegs, cup holder, MP3)<br />
4) Bragging Items (read Chrome)<br />

Watch the sales on various web sites as deals can be found. I waited a year to purchase a new windshield for my Wing, but ended up saving $75.<br />

Remeber you can die on a blinged out Chrome beauty just as fast as a hunk of rusty junk, so always saftey first.<br />

Today, I took my Champion trike into the dealer for a rear oil change. He noticed that the drive shaft was missing two bolts and the 3d one very loose. One thing I would do is make the dealer put the thing on a lift and the two of you inspect the bugger very closely. You have 26,000 miles on yours a bit more than I have on mine and things do come loose. This way, you can be sure everything it tight. <br />

Ride it a a few hunderd miles then start adding. Believe me, this list is endless.

Alan, I have speakers in two of my helmets. The full face Shoei RF 1100 has one type and the Bell 3/4 has another. I have had good luck talking to John at JM corp. <br />

The full face is so tight on my face I had to have a different kind of speaker system. Talk to them or to a good dealer to get the right info to save yourself money.
