We purchased a 2006 GW1800 Trike (2007 Motor Trike) in March of this year. We purchased it from the original owner who had put 20,500 miles on it. When we pulled up to look at it I told Kathy (wife) if that GW is as nice as it looks I'll be driving it home soon. Well it absolutely was as nice mechanically as the paint and finish. After several rides the reverse started working intermittently. It would travel about 4 feet in reverse and stop. I could then cycle the reverse switch and it would then go another 4 feet. I checked all the things I read on this forum and others. Still no change. Earlier this year when I had the brake recall done the Honda Dealer tried all the relays, etc to fix it but to no avail.

They were honest and told me they couldn't fix it and didn't charge me for trying.

They also gave me a list of all the things they had checked or replaced.

The SM told me if I would bring it back when cold weather arrived and they weren't as busy and they would look for the problem.

I took the GW to this dealer Fairfield Honda, Ohio because they are Motortrike Dealers and my bike needed some work on the trike which the factory had agreed to repair at one of their dealers. I have nothing but good to say about this dealer and would use them again.

Now run the clock up to a couple of weeks ago the GW started running bad with a fuel problem. I posted that story and the outcome. The second Honda Dealer is Honda of Florence, Ky which is 40 miles closer to me and only about 2 miles from home. I told them of the reverse problem and they said they thought they could repair it. I said have it! Well after two hours of diagnosing the problem they found wires which feed the reverse resister had been "pinched" probably when it was converted by Motortrike.

The thought is that time, miles, vibrations finally broke enough of the wires to cause the problem. The SM called and said they could splice the wires but recommended that they order and install the short wiring harness with a new one.

I agreed as I'm not a fan of splicing wires and with a new one I know it's fixed for good. Cost ended up being 2 hours of labor for diagnosing and 2 hours to replace and put the GW back together.

Approximately cost 400 dollars. A lot of money but I'm glad to have it fixed and the GW home.

Glad to here things are well again Bill. :) Hopefully you will get some saddle time before time to put it away for the winter. The leaves should be getting very pretty by now there so that is always a good ride...

Have fun and be safe. :xszpv: :xszpv:

It should be ready for pickup this next Tuesday which works out well because it is going to be 75 degrees and sunny here on Wednesday! A ride is in our future!

Glad to hear it wasn't to serious and now your ready to go. Sounds like some good trouble shooting on their part, glad you have some good dealers around you.

I should only be so lucky to have a dealer as close by as you do.
If I want to take my chances. Ive got a new MT dealership with almost zero experience 20 minutes away. They will only build a MT trike if you order it.
None on the floor to take parts from.
If I want to know its going to be done right but it has to be a simple repair with parts on hand. They will take parts off a floor build at least they have for me. Its Cowell Power or Motor Sports 140 miles away. Best, most accommodating Honda dealership Ive ever done business with. I cant help but sing their praises when this type of post comes up.
