Facebook scam

My facebook profile was involved in a scam yesterday morning! I cannot figure out how they did it. My email account has not been hacked. Anyway, somehow someone was able to impersonate me and chat with some of my FB friends, saying that I was in London, had been mugged and robbed and needed them to send me money. How stupid is that? Anyway one of my girlfriends was one of the FB friends that was approached on the chat board. She immediately called me, ask where I was and then told me what was going on. I reported this to Facebook and they deactivated my account. I went through the process that they told me to do. Now I don't know if I need to re-register and start a new account or just wait on them to do their thing. They did not tell me what I should do about that. Does anyone know? I am not a technical guru, so I cannot figure out how they went into my profile and chatted with my friends. It is highly unlikely that they retrived my email password, for it is very complicated with number and letters, so I feel fairly confident that is not their method of impersonating me. Anyone with any knowledge on this? Thanks for your help!

A couple of my facebook friends have had this exact same hack done to their profiles. I don't know what the remedy is, but at least you can send a note to all of your email addresses to let them know that it is a hoax, and not you. I wish you the best.

An easy way to check if your passwords have been compromised is to check the "Sent" folder of your email accounts to make sure someone is not sending email from your accounts. I run a free program called advanced system care in addition to the installed antivirus, just as another layer of protection. Good luck with your FB issue.
