Extended Warranty ??

Recently purchased a 2014 Tri Glide which is out of factory warranty. Have been considering extended warranty mainly because of the electronic systems on the bike, not too worried about the drive train. I can see where you could spend some major bucks if something happened to the radio/nav/info center.

Wondering what the consensus on extended warranty might be....I'm generally not in favor but I have no concept on whether there are concerns with this bike or not ???

Any comments are appreciated. ThumbUp

Warranty

I purchased the extended warranty on my 2016 freewheeler just for the piece of mind. I can ride now for 7 years unlimited miles with I hope is no worries.:pepper:

Think there's some words of wisdom from Gorilla and a few other's on similar threads here in the fourm...check it out ThumbUp

I don't buy extended warranty on a new purchase as it has one with it..But I do buy on on a used vehicle for peace of mind and if something big bucks happens I am not kicking myself. ThumbUp

I too was looking at extended coverage for my Freewheeler, dealer said wait until about 60 days before the Motor Co warranty expires and come back...mind sharing what kind of $$$ it cost y'a to cover 5 more years? Thanks!

The only Two things that would have been a warranty issue on my 11 Tri[40 thousand miles] ''If'' i would have gotten it was front engine bolts.. Some aggravation and 5 dollars in parts... [Repaired it my self] Then there was the reverse motor a lot of aggravation and 95 dollars to have it rebuilt [Took it to a rebuilder and put it back in my self] But when it died again i had my dealer put in a mechanical reverse 1700 dollars...So the only down time at a dealer was one day..
So i figured the price of the extended warranty was a wash...

That said if you aren't tool handy ; Get it.......ThumbUp

Don't know about anyone else, but I have purchased the extended warrantee on ever MC purchased since 2006 (3 - 2 wheelers and the Trike) and everyone has paid for itself in one way or another. Pease of mind to me is worth a lot!!

Can you buy extended Mo Co warranty after the original warranty has expired?

Dealer told me that If the factory warranty expired would have to do a inspection?? At a cost to me before they issued new extended... Not sure if that would be true for other dealers. Also didn't say how much?

I've had 2 Harleys and won't own one with out a warranty. PERIOD. Just one electrical issue with the ECM and you'll never question having a warranty again. My 07 Harley decided it wanted a new ECM just months before the extended warranty expired. Instead of another extended warranty I traded it for a Indian. And once again I bought the extended warranty. I hope I don't need it personally but Harley's trained me well.

Ext. warr

Have the ext. warranty on my 2010, I think it just paid for itself + some.......it's in shop now, blown head gasget and flywheel issue (72 thou. miles)
Waiting for ext.warrenty rep to show up for inspection/approval for repairs.

Will post update when I hear from dealer.

Past years,I never bought ESP. But,now with all the electronics (Radio w/navigation) is about $2000. I bought the ESP on my new Tri

Decided to buy the extended warranty a few months before the factory one expired. Also ended up getting the tire and wheel policy after Louisiana highways cost me $400 for towing and front tire replacement on a Saturday afternoon.

Couple of ???"s

I have never purchased the extended warranty, but am seriously considering it for my new 2016 Tri Glide Ultra. I do not want to start another "what is covered if I install something" type of thread. However, if you do add things yourself like head pipes, mufflers, Stage 1 AC and maybe cams, and 4 years later there is a problem..... will HD honor the warranty? If it is a part I installed that breaks, I can see them maybe not covering it. However, if it is a part not related to my changes will they cover it, or will they say "nope you have voided your warranty making these other changes" ? I, like a lot of you, am concerned about electronics, ECU etc also. I am not real crazy about spending that much money and down the road being told I should have known better.

extended warranty

If you read your owners manual in the maintenance section it clearly states you are allowed to do your own work on your machine if you have the tools and ability. The dealer just tells you you cant so they can get the work. Also if you go on the Harley website under parts and accessory's you can ask questions about doing your own work on putting these parts on and a Harley rep will tell you it allowed if you are competent on doing it

Keep good records back it up on an external hard drive

Lots of good food for thought offered by the comments, appreciate it. As I originally stated, with only 7K miles on the bike, I'm more worried about electrical issues with the nav/info/radio system on the trike than I am drive line issues. Dealer (not a Harley dealer) wants $1700 for 3 years and it might be good insurance as complicated as that system is.

Has anyone had any big issues with the electronics ???

Ext warr UPDATE

HD shop just called and for my 50 buck deductable they are rebuilding my engine - so in my case it was sure worth buying the EXTENDED WARR.
IMO I think the dealer DOES play a good part of customer relations, my only real complaint is WHY would a flywheel go @72 thou?

HEY MOCO.....what happened to product longevity,
my EVO has 270 thou + on it......

Just had my reverse motor replaced at around 7,000 miles, the tech said the bill was 1850. dollars thanks to my warranty I paid 50 bucks and mine is a 2014.

Had the radio replaced on my 13 CVO with less than 5000 miles on it.

It's a roll of the dice. Personally, I'd rather be covered if my bike breaks down and I am thousands of miles from home. Electronic repairs on the new ones can be very expensive. All those controls, relays, and buttons wear out. I found a 7 year bumpe r to bumper warranty for $900.00

I have not, and will not own a Twin Cam without a warranty. I have had an ESP on every Twin Cam I've owned, starting with a 2001 Dyna (6 in total).

I still have two of them, the other 4 ALL had warranty work done where the "cost" exceeded what I paid for the ESP. I am $ ahead on those 4...and one of them had an entire new engine (reman) and another an entire new top end. So, even if I have no work done under ESP on the 2 I still own, I am still thousands of $ ahead.

Disclaimer: I ride a LOT of miles, and sometimes ride pretty hard.

It is not just the electronics...but that can be a big cost if things go bad (I had one radio replaced under ESP)...but the TC engine and primary are weak links, as is the reverse.

I bought a '13 Spyder March of 2016. I had to use it my install long trip. Wouldn't go without it.

Thanks to all for the comments and advice. I decided to purchase a no-deductible, all inclusive extended warranty for my ride. ThumbUp

extended warranty

This is to Kevin of DK customs

Kevin. You stated that you would never have a twin cam without an extended warranty. My question to you is From reading all the posts about your bike you have put on 1. different exhaust 2. a power vision tuner 3. a dk air cleaner with external breathers 4. a remote oil filter and a numerous amount of other stuff. How has this affected your warranty? Do you remove all this when your bike breaks down or do you have a special relationship with your dealer? And if you have that relationship what would happen with your warranty if you were on the road far from home?

The reason I ask is I have bought a few of your products and am very impressed with not only your products but also with your fast shipping and your telephone service when I have problems reading install instructions. I would like to add more things like your tuner, your shocks, and your remote oil filter but I am very worried about warranty as I live in Canada and travel mostly in the good old USA where they give their food and gas away compared to Canada and am worried about breaking down

I have had ESP on my last 5 rides and ride all over the country. My bikes are modified, Stage II, and I pull a trailer (wheelchair carrier). No dealer has ever turned me away or threatened my warranty. As long as the mod could not be blamed for the issue, you should be good.

Oops...didn't see your answer. I have the ESP on my 15 TG, and a stage I put on it at my dealer's shop. They told me with a wink and a nod that they would take care of me if anything happened, but it may not be taken care of at another dealership. Basically, that another dealership might try to blame the modification for the problem.

Dealer wanted $3000 for extended warranty on my 2017

Trike. Then said that any modification other than Harley

parts would void warranty. Thanks, but no thanks.
