Expectant Triker

I've had a Kawasaki Nomad for a couple of years, but my wife (who has some health issues) isn't comfortable riding the bike.

Thought about buying a trike, but most used ones are in the $20-25K area and the new ones are completely out of my price range.

Last week, I went to see an Insta Trike "training wheels" set up and I visited a shop that does full conversions, mostly Gold Wings, but also some Harley and some metrics.

One of the kits they handle is the Hannigan kit for Kawasaki Nomads and the price came in at just over $10K. I'm going back on Wednesday to give them my half down. Delivery should be in about six weeks.

I'm 65, so sooner or later, I probably will appreciate the extra stability and in the meantime, I'm looking forward to my wife being able to ride with me more often.

Any way, I was happy to find this site. I've benefitted (and hopefully also contributed) on a couple of bike sites, so I'm looking forward to participating here.

Just checking to make sure that price means the bike is ready to ride???
Hannigan is one of the most expensive conversions(also one of the best) on the market today.
Did you include Steer Lite(raked front end which is definately needed.)
Asking all this because if you look at the prices on Hannigan's web sight and add sales tax to a painted, installed, ready to ride unit you quote is low.
Want to insure you are getting what you think you are getting.

I did not get the Steer Lite. Talked with the dealer and he said some need it and some don't and he didn't know how to predict it in advance. I've also been lurking here and whereever I could find conversations about rake and there seems to be a mixed bag of reactions.

In the end, I decided not to get it now mostly because if I don't need it, there's no reason to spend the $$ and if it turns out I do need it, I can always get it later.

I did get the two tone paint with one stripe.

The dealer gave me a $500 discount and my written OTD quote including tax is $10,459.20.

But thanks for keeping an eye out for me!!

Welcome from sunny So Cal to the fun-est Forum around, dude. I assure you, you will not regret this move. And you know what...your wife will enjoy it even more. I have a CSC on an 03 GL with the equivalent of the Steer-Lite & just love it. Recently I put on a Super Brace, courtesy of forum-member Bazooka, which has made my steering laser sharp. Later in the game, maybe, you can consider both, once you have the hang of it.

I placed my order today for a Hannigan Trike kit. I'm really impressed with the dealer. It's a father & son dealership. Trike Traders of Central Florida

As I said earlier, I went up there last week and got an OTD quote of $10,459.20.

After I made the decision to go with the full conversion, I rode my bike up to the dealer today to finalize the deal. (About 140 miles round trip, shorts & t-shirt weather!!)

It turned out, after he called the factory, that the stock exhaust won't work with the Hannigan kit. Something to do with the box (converter?) that the exhaust goes into before exiting the pipes.

Apparently V&H pipes are necessary to install the kit. The dealer immediately said I'll eat that cost myself in order to honor the price that I quoted you.

That impressed the heck out of me!! If anyone wants to look at a trike, I'd sure recommend Shaun as being a stand-up guy.

Anyway, I paid half up front. The kit should be available at the end of March or beginning of April.

Expectant Triker,

I am a few years older than you are and last Fall decided to trade the Electraglide for a Triglide. We love the Trike and can't wait for the weather to change a bit so we can get back out. I did have the 103 motor pulled and put in the 113 kit with a Stage I and that made a very significant difference. Great Trike!
