Ever Wonder Why So Many Members/So Few Posters?

I tend to read more than post, a bit of a lone wolf, my wife has been pushing at me to get more involved. Usually don't make friends very quickly and am slow to speak up unless its about something I have personally experience especially mechanically. Went to the Texas trike gathering and still only made one day with the group, missed the second day due to trike problems and still wound up riding on our own, so much for making new friends, only one asked what happened to us, guess the rest didn't care. If I can add to a discussion I will and have on a few, other than that I prefer to ride the edges.

I suppose I need to post more........:D

:xzqxz:

Is THAT even possible?

I also am a Member of many varying Forums that coincide and pertain to my varying yet focused Interests, Concerns. and Hobbies. I joined to be able to research, obtain, and review Information, Ideas, and Opinions (very careful to consider and vet those "Sources").
I
rarely if ever post on the vast majority of them.
Not out of Apathy, Ambivalence, or Selfishness in the least.
Simply because I have nothing to add of value that hasn't already been posted and hashed and rehashed and re-rehashed quite accurately and adeptly already.

Also,,, as it is highly improbable that I have a Question or Concern that hasn't already been posed, answered, and some times already beat like a herd of dead Horses with reckless abandon;
The "Search" Function much more often than not yields more than sufficient Info & Answers.
I see no need to dig/dredge up poor ol' Mr Ed and add selfish insult to a pre-existing fatal injury.

Personally I choose not to post simply "to Post".
The old Adage of the Wise Man & the Fool....... ;)
However, that's just me. Feel free to differ. I got no Issue with that.
If I want and ask for understanding for my choice and position,
I must cede the same understanding and respect to those who feel the opposite and act accordingly.

To each his own. It's All Good ThumbUp

P.s. I review Threads and Posts here pretty much every day for the most part if the Title of the Thread interests me.
If I see a Post that is helpful, educational, (makes me smile or laugh) etc. OR one that I agree with,,,
I use the "Like This Post" function to say Thanks or to "Co-Sign" the Post and Information given by the Poster.
That's why that Option is there right?

I tend to post when there is a topic where I feel I can truly contribute something of value to the discussion. I will not respond to any topics on the Harley page since I have been repeatedly attacked and criticized, even when I rode an Ultra. Of course, I'm not the only one. There are so many helpful folks on these forums that we all can gain from their experience. This place is the best place for information that I have found in the 3 years I've been a member.

Thanks for your contributions. I've read a number of your posts and never felt that you were rude or insensitive, so Harley readers shouldn't attack you. Don't worry about it.

It seems that most Harley owners buy them because it's the popular bike to own. I personally know and have ridden with the Harleys. Most of them have little experience or knowledge of any other bikes. Remember the old saying - if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. What they don't know really limits their appreciation for other (maybe better) motorcycle alternatives.

I understand and accept that attitude, but then again, isn't that attitude apparent in almost every other aspect of our lives? .. religion, politics, demographics, culture, education level, etc.

I personally want to thank all responsible for this forum. I am in my first season on 3. At the end of last season I dropped my bike off to be triked. While waiting I ran across this forum and was able to obtain first hand information before attempting the finer art of trike dynamics. I have no regrets about the decision. Currently I am trying to gather information on leading link forks.

posting

in a lot of cases when I read a post an think of posting an reply, if I read other reply I see were some one has the same answered as good or better then I could give + I learn a lot by reading all post

I'm not the most prolific poster, but I try to make a positive contribution when I can. In the early days of the forum, with far less members, I seem to have posted more often, as then I was one of the more experienced members, having been triking about 15 years at that time. (2008/2009) Now with 13,000+ members, and many more experienced trikers, the majority of questions have been answered by the time I can get to the computer, and a lot of the time any post I make would be in the "Me Too" category.

I've been a member of different clubs thru out my life and it's always the same ! But why join anything if your not going to participate even a little ? I seen people join on here and never post not even once ! What"s up with that ! :xzqxz: I might not have a lot to say. But I say it anyways ThumbUp
Rick..
I know that feeling all to well.
This Monte Carlo club I have been a part of..iit seems the same 4 members show up only for activities cruises car shows etc..
Out of 70 members all across Michigan and newbies signing up everyday. But yet no participation..go figure!
I apologize for my recent lack of activity.. lots going on here lately.. but as things start to return to normal. . I will be more pro active..

You also have the issue of this being a season forum

Unless you live in the southern tier of states,
you have 4 months of riding weather and 8 months
of bitching about the COLD, ICE and SNOW :mad:from those of us farther
north.

This would exclude Pcombe, he has about 40 days of riding weather
and 325 days of doom and gloom......Sorry Paul LOL

This is an interesting study about internet forums and blogs by Nielsen Research...members & visitors flock here to gather information but most do not post, yet this is the norm. Yeah we knew that but we still wish more would join in...read more here:

http://www.nngroup.com/articles/participation-inequality/

Before even reading that study,my guess was 90-9-1. Sad,isn't it? If you are going to join a forum, support it. Just being a member but never posting isn't my idea of support. If you're capable of signing up as a member, you're certainly capable of posting your thoughts.

If there are this many loners in the trike community,it kinda makes me wonder why should I bother triking our Street Glide.

Yeppers, this happens on all forums. Some forums have thousands of members yet only a few hundred will ever post.

Not sure why someone joins as a member of a forum to never post. Maybe he or she thinks they might miss something if he or she doesn't become a member.

It has been my experience that in order to participate in some manner, even if just an inquiry, in most forums , regardless of subject matter, one is required to register. Me, being a noob, was, and still am, seeking info on my particular trike. I can chat, tell jokes, etc, without logging onto the internet. I do post on occasion, though.

Well, now that we've about beaten this one to death, I'd like to add one more observation: As far as I know there is only one person on this board that I have met in person so far. Hope to change that with the Maggie Valley trip.

That said, I look forward to comments from many of the regulars. I have a mental image of what they are like, what they do, where they live and who they ride with. You are like an extended family, or cousins that I rarely see but still like to keep up with. Facebook is a good example of this.

I post because I like to think that you also are similarly interested in my escapades and oddball opinions. I may be the crazy uncle, but after all I'm your crazy uncle.

Jax I just looked at your profile and you and I joined at about the same time and have about the same level of activity.

I belong to 3 other forums. Two of them, tho accepting membership from riders of other brands, are brand specific.Since I no longer ride that brand I don't have a lot to say on those forums but I do like to see what the others are up to and there are a few of them I think I have formed a friendship with. And like here there are even a few I have gotten to meet in person and enjoyed riding with a little. I will never be a volume poster on any forum except one. But I will post from time to time and enjoy all those posts from the rest of you and look forward to meeting you at future rallies.

BTW to those who made and continue to make this forum possible thank you for all your time and effort

This is exactly why this forum exists. We are family here and each of us gets back what we put in. If you want real friendships, some great laughs, lots of good useful information, some awesome ride buddies...you have that here.

Me, I have 10 months of riding and 2 months of ice fishing! No complaints here! :D

For whatever reason...

I find that its a going trend... I belong to a cpl different forums. and its the same ole same ole..

However,
As I get closer to getting my trike from DeMasters Motorcycle shop..
I will definitely be on here more often. Lately Ive had a lots crap going on and it seems I just couldn't get the time to jump on here..
I have most of the things that were eating up my time taken care of...
So I will do my level best to be here more often.

I think there is good posting action on here.
Checkout a few other MC/Trike sites and there are days of no posts at all.

We do have good participation, especially compared to some other forums, but relative to the number of members we have we are pretty much par for the course. Most folks still join forums to read and gather information, not to post. That's just the way it is.

I've met many Trikers who have never heard of this site and I strongly encouraged them to join and participate if they so desired. I have one friend out West that refuses to join because he is afraid to put his email address on the internet. (Strange reasoning, I know, but you would have to know Mike) So, he misses much good information since this site is great for information and helpful hints.

from one who posts little

Let me add to the discussion here. i'm one of those that your talking about that does'nt post alot. and there are alot of assumpions being brought up. some good, some that may have validity
i for one belong to many forums. the ones i am on the most are this one and the VRCC ( valkyrie riders cruiser club )
i don't post alot there either.
i'm one of those that most times have nothing to say but i do like to read the posts of other people.
in the occasion a discussion comes up that interests me in the general section I’m still hesitant about posting because i figure nobody wants to hear what i have to say anyway.
in most cases you'll find that people that lurk on forums but don't post it's because that’s the way it was when we were growing up. so it has just carried over into the virtual world to.
i do go to the tech side and if a post arises that i might be able to give some incite to i normally do.
i am a mechanic by trade been turning wrenches for 40 years. i work for a construction rental company. i also go to the factory where they make the JLG lifts and work on problems they can't solve.
so what i'm trying to convey is the people that come here but don't post alot. thats the same way they are in life to. when family gets togather you'll find those same people just listening to everybody else but not saying a word.

With all due respect, you couldn't be more wrong in thinking that way. Posting your thoughts and opinions is the lifeblood of this forum and others like it.
All of us want to hear what you have to say.
