Engine cleaning

I would like to get my engine ( 1600 DP VW ) steam clean....

Are there any precautionary measures I need to take with this type of engine?

Keep the steam cleaner and steam away from the Distrubutor and generator. Both have holes where the water / steam will enter and settle and that isn't good. Be sure the oil level dipstick has a good seal. Water can get into the oil around the o ring if its loose. Put a plastic bag over your air cleaner to prevent entry there and you should be good to go.
 
I would rather get a can of engine cleaner and spray the engine good and then a light rinse with a water hose, less chance of damage. IMHO
