Well I bought a Trike in Florida and blew the engine on my way back to Virginia. Had to have a friend come from Virginia with a trailer to pick Trike and me up. When I say friend I mean the type of friend everyone should have. Total spent after I bought the Trike is embarrassing, too much, but I got it home. Despite everything that happened I still love my Trike. Finding a decent VW engine to rebuild is like mining for Gold. Found 2 engines, both long blocks. One is an AE and the other a F. I haven't torn either down yet. The F may be a 1300cc Dual Port or a new block 1500cc or 1600cc. I guess the way to tell is to check for dual oil relief valves. If it is a 1300cc the 1600cc heads will fit and I can buy 1600cc cylinders and pistons. The 1300cc engine is the better of the two engines because it turns free and no end play in the crank. The 1600cc is rusted up. The Trike is in Virginia and I'm in Missouri. Build an engine here, go to VA next spring, change engine and not work on Trike all summer. I will change bearings in the bottom end.
Anybody that sees I have made a wrong statement in my article please let me know because its been ages since I overhauled a VW engine. Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help.
