Being new to Honda and this forum, is there an easy way to determine if a trike has E-Z steer or not. Also, can you tell the degree just by looking. I would think not but there again, I am a newbie.

Ron you will find some that say you do not need the rake kit (E-Z Steer) and if you are a weight lifter and can bend steel rods with you bare hands maybe so. If not, you will benefit from installing a rake kit. How much will depend on the places you ride and your riding style.

If you are mechanically inclined ZOOK can hook you up with a real high quality rake kit for way less then I've ever seen it anywhere else. I've installed four of his kits and they all are flawless. Call him at (334)648-0157.

Guess that means I'm for the E-Z Steer :xszpv: :wave4:

measure the distance from the rear of the front fender to a stationary point on the trike. Find a bike just like it. Measure the distance from the same points. If yours is longer then it has been raked. Post the distance and where you measured it. others with your same trike should be able to tell you the degree they have. Hope that helps

I'm not a weight lifter (68 years old), always worked behind a desk and I have no problem steering my GW trike steering in OEM condition. Saved myself several hundred dollars and several hours of work to install. I did install a handlebar adjustment kit which eliminated my back aches (instead of a rake kit). We all have opinions about stuff we spend our hard earned money on but I try to spend my money wisely on stuff like Utopia back rest.

If you ride straight roads you might like not having a raked front end. However, I ride (live) in the twisties and I could not ride very long without it.

If you're looking at a used trike you could call the installer and they will have a record of what they installed with the kit, if any.

Some trikes steer easy, some hard. All I can say is that my Motortrike steers easy. I have never seen the need or desirability of a rake kit.

I have the 4.5 rake kit , it was installed when I had my wing triked it was hard to steer with the rake kit . Then I found out about mounting a back tire on the front a MPA now this made a Huge differance and I became much more happy with the trike which I hated at 1st.

Yep, that Tire combo gives the Trike quicker response and requires less movement......ThumbUp

Thanks all for your input. The bike I bought (2007 Honda Goldwing Trike) does not appear to have been raked. I will make the evaluation after I have some miles on as to rake it or whatever. I can turn a wrench and would do the change myself if it comes to that. Again, thanks..

Ron,I also ride a 1800 wing motortrike, when I first triked it I did not have the rake on it,Had a broken collar bone & ribs when I picked it up.By the time I road it home about 60miles,thought I was going to die.My son installed the 4.5 rake tree & I could ride very easy.Great improvement.Good luck & ride safe.
