This weekend my wife and I were headed to harbor freight.
Along side the road I seen this biker with his bike laid down. He was wearing a vest to a large MC club (I wont say the name) He was coming out of a parking lot going up a slight hill and turning to the right.

I quickly did a U-turn (the wife got mad at me for doing it so quick)
Got back to the Biker and helped him get his bike back up.
I could smell the booze on him big time. I watched him pull back into the parking lot weaving all over.

I told him he should not be riding in that condition but he ignored me and took off.

As I can see it there was not much more I could do.

A Stranger, he pulls a gun!

How does the old Cowboy saying go; You can lead a Horse to water 'But you can't reason with him to drink it.... Or something like that...You helped him as well as you could...

There isn't much you can do, if you tried anything else you might be the one the police were coming for possibly laying on the ground. You never know these days what will happen when you are trying to help someone.:Shrug:. I will be the one to say "thank you" for helping a fellow biker/triker in a time on need.

You went back to help that's all you can do. Like Rosy says people carry guns , you can not push some people especially when impaired.

Reporting him to the police could possibly save his or another's life. That seems to be the only thing you could have done other than what you did, which is a personal decision. I'm not sure what I would have done so not questioning your decision. I'm also not certain how it would affect me if he went on down the road and got himself or someone else killed and I hadn't reported him driving in what appeared to be an impaired condition.

Fowler did the right thing, Sometimes You have to make decisions you think are right at the time not in Hindsight.. And then you just shrug your shoulders and move on...
Hindsight is 20/20...Its easy to know the right thing to do After something has happened..

... etc ....

When I come upon these types these days, I call both local dispatch and the VSP dispatch for this area. I give complete descriptions and tag nos. I have on occasion, followed them from a safe distance until stopped.

Had I noticed the odor or other indicia of intoxication before helping him to get it up, I would have left him with it laying down.

If he was wearing "colors" trying to look "outlaw", I'd have just made a call to dispatch about a "disabled motorist in need of assistance" and included a brief description so that the responding unit would know he has the right one. I would not have stopped unless he was a hazard in the traffic lane ....

I agree with Catfish, I have stopped and helped many bikers but none have been obviously under the influence. The patch means little to me when a drunk driver is on the road , so in some way the bike would not be going any further down the road.
