Lawton , OK, US
During the istallation of my trike kit (2013 CSC Cobra XL to my 2009 Goldwing). They did run into 1 issue, shortly after I purchased my GW (late Oct 2012, 4 days) the battery died. I took it back to the Dealer Lawton Honda/Yamaha Powersports. The Service manager stated that they would need to recharge the battery and check out the bike (now they had to recharge the battery the day I purchased it because it was dead already). Now this is a new GW (0 miles) sitting inside their store, so you figured it was 4 years old. Anyway the called me and advised me that they needed to replace the battery, but that they did not have a Honda battery in stock and it would take a week to get one in, or the could use a factory replacement YUASA battery. Because the dealer advised me that it was a direct replacement I told them to put it in. Now that the bike is at the other dealer getting the trike kit put on they found the battery had cracked and leaked out down onto the frame (eating off the powder coating, and damaged the chrome heat shield over the exhaust). :gah:Lawton Honda/Yamaha Powersports stated they would warrenty out the YUASA battery, but not the damage. :Shrug:Altus Honda Motorsports advised me that they would just file a claim with Honda. :)Honda refused the claim because an aftermarket battery was used and not a Honda OEM battery.:gah: I called Honda Corp. Headquarters and spoke with them for over 45 min on the phone and was advise that they were going to assign a rep. to check into this problem. I was contacted by Honda Rep today advising that at this time there was nothing that they could do because I failed to use an OEM battery. Needless to say the Lawton Dealer was useless, the Altus dealer did contact me today and advised me that they would repair the damages, replace the chrome cover and that they got the Lawton dealer to agree to pay for the Battery to be replaced back to an original OEM Honda Battery. pepper My thanks to Altus Motorsports, Short side to this story, don't believe a service dept. when they tell you it's a direct replacement part. If it ain't factory OEM part refuse to use it and insist on the OEM Part. Still can't wait till Friday gets here.:Excited:

Yep another story of lets dodge the issue. And gang this is not just a Honda Harley or whatever. They will all do it if you are not careful.

What a crock...guess who makes the OEM Honda batteries. YUASA!

If I remember right the battery in my 2012 Wing is black and says Yuasa on it. Its a shame when folks have to deale with run around from dealers and the manufacturer.

not sure if this is really the place for this, but i am dealing with Mountain creek Harley Davidson with MY trike i bought in NC. with no big sale to me, these guys have been so extraordinarily helpfull, trusting, and upfront with me i cant speak highly enough of how much help they have been to me. In Australia i dont think anyone has any faith in vehicle dealers of any sort, and i personally would not have believed i would feel the urge to rave about how good a dealer has been. But Mountain creek harley has changed my opinion. there are really good people out there, just getting harder to find them.

I have to say the same for BlueRidge PowerSports in Harrisonburg, VA. Their sales, parts and above all they're service department are Top Notch. I trust their service manager, Gary, 100%! Very knowledgeable, friendly and honest!

Don't get me wrong, Altus Motorsports has been outstanding. They did not have to identify the problem or even try to fix the problem, they where paid to install the Trike Kit. George the Owner, Joe Sales, Raul Service Mgr and Paul the Installer/Tech, have been outstanding and have attempted to make things right. I will make the almost 1 hour drive for any service, repair or parts buying that I need. I will not return to Lawton Honda/Yamaha Powersports for anything and they are 3 minutes from my house. Not all establishments are bad, I am just saying Buyer/Owner beware. Make sure that an Item installed on your Trike/Bike is not going to effect your warranty if it fails. Not all dealers are bad...

Well the short skinny of it is, and this is straight from YUASA Battery INC. The YUASA battery put in my 2009 GW (YUASA YTX20L-BS) was used from 2001 thru 2008 and the battery that the Lawton Dealer installed will work, but it is recommended that YUASA GYZ20L be used. The only difference's with the 2 batteries is that the factory battery (YUASA GYZ20L) has more cold cranking amps and Gell instead of liquid acid, But even YUASA Battery INC. stated that the battery would have worked fine had the case not cracked, and they could not believe that Honda Dealer or Corprate Office would not complete Warrenty Work as in the end they would have been refunded by them for the faulty battery. Even if the Dealer purchased the battery thru Tucker Rocky, thats why the Battery comes with a warrenty.
