Dog accidents

Hi,
I searched a bit around here but I was unable to find a similar topic.
I am concerned about accidents involving animals, in my case most probably dogs. We have here quite a lot of stray dogs or dogs which are not supervised by their owners and roam free. Apparently, many of them have something against me...
I know and I've seen what happends when a dog hits a 2 wheeler, but I am not sure about trikes. Last week I missed one small dog by inches, the dog ran to the front wheel, but the back wheel came soon after and missed it just by pure luck. Next time it may not be so fortunate. However, this took place at low speed, under 20km/h.
At higher speed and/or with bigger dogs, the story may be diffrent. I am concerned about three cases:
-dog running into the front wheel. I think this is a bad scenario, it may destabilize the trike
-dog running near pilot legs, also bad, it may brake my bones or passanger's
-dog hitting the back wheel (most probably right wheel). Is there a chance here to destabilize the trike?
My trike (rewaco rf1) has some side protection bars but judging about their position and ground heigth, they may not help in case of impact with dogs.

I think there is more of a chance of an accident from you trying to swerve to avoid a dog than trike flipping. They are very stable. Not good for dog but think of it like hitting pothole. Big bump but still upright.

I avoid only at low speeds and where is plenty of space (trike or car, doesn't matter). I saw few years ago a guy with a car avoiding a dog, crossed into opposing traffic, crashed into a truck and died.
I am sorry for any dog but my life is more important.

Now your thinking!:Agree:

Dogs aren't a problem out my way... Woods Rats now they can kill you.. I hit one with a trike or should i say it hit me, Lucky is was a Fawn. In the 46 years iv'e lived out here, I hit or been hit by 8 or 9 with my car/truck, Close calls can't even count how many... With a car/truck if you know you can't avoid it' Just before impact come off the brakes, Better that they go under than over and though your windshield. On a Bike/Trike all bets are off....:gah:

No one wants to hit a dog or cat or even a (wood rat) but it is better to hit one than to try and miss it and run off the road or into the other lane. I know it's hard to not react but it could save your life. I was following a friend a couple of years ago and a dog ran out in front of him and he kept the trike straight and he hit the dog, but he was OK and the dog was alright also.

First let me say I'm a dog lover. I have two. But if it come to a dog or my safety I choose me. I have had it happen years ago on a two lane. I felt bad but nothing I could have done. Afterwords, speaking to the owner, I found out neighborhood kids used to tease the dog and it would bite their tires on their bikes. Didn't survive when trying to bite my tires.
