Dilemma On Triking My Bike

Dilemma On Triking My Bike
I need your help. My Dilemma is I'm looking for a trike in a 02 Pearl Orange that has Independent suspension.
All the ones I have found so far are either the wrong kit with straight axle or to much money.
I have found several real nice 02,03 and 04s with low miles for around the $15,000 to 17,000 Price Range but is either the wrong color or kit.

The Question Is :
How many miles is to many to have your bike Triked ?
My 02 GL1800 has 130,000 on it and still Runs and looks great and I plan to keep it for a long time.
Please tell me what you think Pros and Cons !!!

Thanks
Gary

Well my honest opinion is that I would start with a bike that has less miles.

Goldwing has a long life but investing the money your talking about with an independent suspension and raked tree plus building costs far outweighs the longevity of your bike.

Now that being said, I have a 26 yr. old Harley that I just cant part with and I had planned a new engine etc. after I triked it and it got one the following year.
I do the mechanical work and I did the conversion on mine so in the long run how much do you really want to sacrifice keeping this wing on the road?

A trike does take a toal on a bike don't be fooled into thinking otherwise.

I went with a Champion straight axle kit and I bought a quality raked triple tree from Zook for half the cost of others on the market and I had around $8,000 into the build its self.

What are you planning to spend on your wing $ 12-15,000?

I wouldn't trike a bike that age and mileage. Age has as much or more to do with future problems as mileage, IMO. Electrical wiring becomes brittle, all rubber components such as hoses and bushings are deteriorating, etc. I think I would look for a new bike with less mileage if you plan on keeping for several years.

Don't know what your budget will allow, but seems you're looking for something less expensive. Have you considered keeping the 1800 & looking for a good, clean 1500 trike? They can be had for less money & you'd still have a nice trike.

Just saw one on West Kentucky $raigsist in that color. DFT I believe.

I am the owner of this trike. It is in excellent condition with a laundry list of accessories. ACC LIST: CB radio, Ergo II cruise mounts with iso pegs, foot peg lowering brackets with dually ISO pegs, chrome foot peg mounts, transformer passenger floorboards, chrome ISO grips with throttle boss on each side (these are showing some wear), oversize chrome brake pedal, tall tulsa windwhield with vent, lower cowl driving lights, baker built air wings with lowers, trike wings, chrome fairing intakes, chrome rotor covers, front fender cover, chrome master cyl. top, luggage rack, digital volt meter, chrome passenger step covers (behind the passenger transformer floorboards), chrome fairing accent strips, chrome mirror trim, 12 volt acc. plug in trunk, front fender extension, Honda chrome windshield accent, Utopia backrest, passenger armrests with pouches on each. The new price of these items LESS the Honda chrome windhsield accent, the 12 volt plug, the driving lights, and the EZ STEER is $2,139.00 priced from the Cyclemax website and I am sure I have forgotten some things. Include the EZ Steer, the Honda chrome windshield accent, the 12v plug and the driving lights and this would put the accessories alone at approx. $3500.00. I have the papers on the kit and installation and if I remember correctly it was close to $12,000.00. Taking in to consideration the condition of the trike, the regular maintenance performed with records and the mileage I think it is very reasonably priced.

The Trike is only as good as the frontend.
You put a new $15000 kit on a 2002 Wing, you have a 2002 Trike
with a total value of about $15000 after the conversion. You might want to find a newer wing in a color you like and go from there.

You are absolutely right that's what I'm trying to decide now. I have found a few around for under $17,000 and one was a 03 with all the goodies with 16,000 miles on it for $15,000 but it was the wrong color and it had a CSC kit which I don't like it's to wide. A friend of mine just got a 04 trike with a lot of extras and it came with a like new Time Out trailer only used one time for $17,000.
I can get a 2015 Roadsmith Trike Kit with Independent suspension put on color matched with a trailer hitch & wired, swaybar, 17" chrome wheels, Running boards, 6 deg rake, trunk carpet, Out the door for $11,900
and thats with one day service. I guess when you sell something it's only worth what someone's willing to pay for it.
Some people are still trying to get what they got in it and that's hard to do especially when its a 13 or 14 year old trike and you put a lot of stuff on it that's only worth so much. I still think you can't get all your money out of it what you have in to it just cut your losses for all the good times you had with it and move on. That's how I look at it.
