Deer verse Trike

Well I should finally get my trike back , after 3 weeks and 3800 I can still ride before winter . Maybe I can get another deer, never know. Cop said if I would of been riding motorcycle I would of wrecked and got hurt . All I got was PO from damage deer caused.

I have read "deer whistles" are no good, so I am asking anyone who has hit a deer if they had them.
I have had them on for many years and the only time I saw deers was one night when a big buck and a doe ran across the road several yards ahead of me, but wasn't even close to hitting him.

I have hit 8/9 deer over the years [not on a bike] with deer whistles, And without them. Do they work?:Shrug:

Reloader..You guys do raise some big bucks up your way!! We are over run with skinny doe's. I would say 20 to 1 over bucks. Happy to hear your getting your trike back and you didn't get hurt! Hoping for one more really nice day to hit the rolling hills of WVA one time before winter sets in.

I've used deer whistles for years. Never hit a deer. No close calls. I am pretty good at spotting deer off the side of the road (knock on my head). Doing 20k per year at all times of the day and night in all sorts of locations, I probably tempt the odds.
Before I used the whistles, I was hit by a flying bat. Not sure if whistle would have helped there, but they do navigate by sonics.

I have a friend that has a body shop in northern Minnesota, lots of deer in the north woods. I asked him about the deer whistles, and he said it's about 50/50 with whistles vs. without in his shop. They don't cost much, and they don't hurt if they don't work (unless you do get unlucky enough to hit a deer) and if they do work you should never know.

I've used the electronic Hornet on my first trike and I'm getting ready to install another one on my present ride. Do they work? I hope so. When it's turned on you can definitely hear/sense the high pitched frequency. My pups hate it, lol. Here's the link;

Yes I use a deer whistle. I think am lucky because I work swing shift .1200 am to 12 pm then 1200pm to 12 am so I get to see a lot of deer plus I have had the trike for 18 months and 42,000 miles and only 1 deer .

Here in West Ky.we have alot of deer I live in the country and have alot of incounters with deer. The deer do hear the whistles you can tell by the ears standing straight up and not moving . The down side of the whistles is when deer hear them that is where they stop and that may be right in the middle of the road.During the rut a Buck has only 1 thing on his mind and won't pay any attention to anything short of a bullet.:AGGHH:

If you use them it is important to keep them cleaned out. Don't use anything metal to clean them; toothpicks are the best. I don't have much faith in them myself, but some guys swear by them

You have not lived until you ride thru a cloud of stuffed buzzards taking off! Snarley is very LOUD, and I watch wildlife scatter before me. Loud Pipes Saves Lives is a saying I believe in.

The deer in my neck of the woods must be deaf. I've cracked the throttle a few times to observe the reactions of deer standing along side the road, most of the time they don't even look up from feeding. My 06 Ultra isn't super quiet, it gets pretty loud when you crack the throttle.

Always keep in mind the wild animal may decide to scatter right back across the road in front of you. They like to escape to a last known safe route which at times could be back across the road. I've watched this happen with several animals including deer.

I've never bought into the Loud Pipes Save Lives slogan, I belive solding defensive riding will save the day more often than racket. A rider should always be alert and ready to react to a given situation.

I agree I also think loud pipes risk rights. We have a some condos, townhouses and trailer parks that do not allow motorcycles in. If you have guests with a bike they have to leave them at the front gate. They will not even let scooters in even though they make hardly any noise. Loud pipes have ruined it for anyone living in their development wanting to ride home. You need to rent storage space to keep your bike and drive your car to your bike.

In my neck of the woods the deer ar huge. They are mostly on back roads, on back roads staying over 45 MPH is a chore. Deer whistles only work over 45 MPH . The deer whistle only work in pairs ( if they work ) do not only use one, I have seen it done. Make sure that the wind will pass through them, nothing behind them. And my body man said the same thing cars hit by deer with and without them is 50/50. He is the one that said if they work you have to be moving fast. I thing the electric ones would make more sence
