The whole competion thing started from high school when the boys started with my Ford is better than your Chevy. Now it has carried over to bikes and trikes. I really dont care what kind of bike/trike you ride just as long as you ride and respect the road space of the biker.

I have owned Harley, Honda, Kawasaki. Never ridden a crotch rocket, the closest to a crotch rocket was an old Kawasaki Spectre, geared low, it was pretty fast. Now I ride a couch rocket. I don't bash anybody's ride except in jest and that is usually in retaliation for something said among friends.

I have owned the following. 1979 Honda CM400T, 1979 Suzuki GS850 Shaft Drive, 1982 GoldWing, 1977 Harley Sportster, ???? Volkswagen trike, 1981 Honda SilverWing, 1983 Honda GoldWing, 2000 Honda Valkyrie Interstate, 2012 Honda GoldWing Hannigan Trike conversion.

It doesn't matter WHAT you ride, it matters THAT you ride.

We may poke fun at each other, and even trash a few people/bikes from time to time.

But it all boils down to....THE RIDE......

It has become a very political world and folks wear their feelings on their sleeves. I buy and ride what I like. If I liked a Gold Wing I would buy one. Can't say in the future I won't own one. I don't look down on what other folks ride. I am too OLD to worry about what other folks think.

Having ridden Choppers to "Crotch Rockets", and Everything in between including Scooters, and dressed at times, the "Parts" due to trying to prevent serious injury, etc. .....I never bash ANY Bikes, Trikes, Scooters, etc., nor Their Riders, of ANY Brand or Type.......You Own It, You Like Riding It, then I Like You and Your "WHATEVER".....pepper ThumbUp.....and.....TRIKE TALK.com supports this mindset FULLY.....!!!!!

Thanks Skuuter thought that was one of the rules no flaming, bashing, politics or stuff like that.ANYHOW RIDE SAFE

I spend the winter in Arizona and the group of 20 some cycles gather weekly to ride somewhere around 250 miles total for the day, have lunch, head back for home or whatever is planned for the day. The group is from around the country and about 1/3 are from Canada. I have the only Harley in the group. Goldwings, trikes, Suzuks, and a few others I never heard of before. Everyone has a good time, and the biggest discussion comes when the bikes stop for fuel, some of the higher MPG riders, kind of pick on us old people that have trikes and get lower miles per gallon. All in fun and we have a great time and have developed good friends over the miles.

Several bikes/trikes were mentioned here, I own a Stallion----whats up with that LOL.

Oct. 25, 2012

Glad you mentioned the Stallion. I was reading lots of articles about the Stalion but have never seen one in person. They seem interesting and definitely different. I am not sure I would be comfortable sitting in one of those. They seem like they are a bit confining due to the sides which act like doors. However, I have never driven one, but I have driven just about everything else out there. I would definitely give it a try if there were a dealer somewhere in the S. Jersey area where I could see and test one. I never say NO to any vehicle with a motor and that is why I got the name "Motogordo."

I think most true motorcyclist are passionate about their bikes. They customize them into an extension of themselves... During WWII Harley sales really moved forward due to military production. When the GI's came home many of them purchased Harley's as a means of self expression, patriotism, and just proud Americans. It certainly is a source of freedom to be in the wind, the V Twin Harley represents cool and gives that sound and look of no other, even Indian.

It carries that bad boy attitude as well which makes one feel somewhat superior to other makes. Even Sonny Barger (prior Hells Angels President) stated he would much rather ride a Honda ST100 or BMW but they had to maintain the bad boy look, all paraphrased but close to his quote.

Now Harley's are as American as apple pie and ice cream... Unfortunately not many parts actually made in the USA anymore. I guess Victory would be the American made motorcycle of today.

When the Evolution HD engine came out in 1984 many HD riders laughed at it and the riders saying they are not Harley's. Only the Panhead and Knucklehead were real Harley's.

Then you had all those riders that dreamed of owning HD and couldn't afford it so they rode Triumph, BSA, Honda or whatever. There's a lot to be said for twins in general and I love a twin, nothing like it.

Once the technology improved and most all motorcycle parts are produced outside the US many said what the Hell, it's my money and I want quality and durability, ease of maintenance, and I could care less what others think. So we have so many different choices, you really can't know it if you havent tried it.
I used to say I rather eat a can of worms than ride a Honda.

We find so many divisions in life. Some people feel their choices are the best and everyone else should agree. We all have the freedom of choice still today and hopefully in the future.

As I have grown older and hopefully wiser, I seem to understand and respect others for their choice of what they ride and why. So what if someone wants to wear leather and the other a polo shirt, that is their outward expression of their individualism and hopefully we will continue having that in still yet the good old USA.

Every vote counts, I hope you cast yours on election day... I pray we will be able to stand tall for the 1st and second amendment and have that freedom as well as our freedom of choice to ride what we want and express ourselves as we feel.

Whatever you ride I respect your choice and realize now my opinion is just that...

Bashing? Bashing You Say! I'll tell you about bashing! A buddy of mine that rides a goldwing just found out that I plan to have my VTX 1300 triked with a removable trike kit when I get back down to my winter home in Clearwater,FL. His reply to my trike conversion was " Triking isn't really Biking"> My reply to him was" As long as my face is into the wind & there's not a roof over my head I'm biking". Two other buds said he's the one that has the issues!

Hey Ssssnke! Your buddy just has no clue what he is missing! Nothing wrong with two wheels (that's wonderful riding), but the option of a trike is also wonderful. Don't let someone with zero knowledge of it spoil your fun at all!!!

You need to expect at least 500 miles of riding to get used to the new steering. Very important that you go into this EXPECTING that it will feel very awkward at first! But you will suddenly discover that it is very natural to you, and you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face. The bolt-on kits handle a little differently than a true trike. I don't have any experience with them, but we have a number of members who can help you with questions when the time comes. It sounds like your installer has experience and can help you through a lot of the adjustment questions too.
And a big TrikeTalk welcome to you!

That's just culturally ignorant. I'm going for my first Road Smith, and I would not take kindly to comments like that and would have to respond with some fine remark.

I thought that I would be looked down upon and even ostracized by other riders out there. Frankly, in 99.9% of the cases it's been exactly the opposite. I am met with open arms and a LOT of curiosity whenever I have pulled in to various events. Yes, even at the Harley dealerships and events.

Most certainly there are those that WILL look down their nose at you. But they are few and far between.

Much like another poster here just said.....expect it to take a minimum of 500 miles to get the "feel" of the trike. I jumped on the interstate here far too soon and the way the trike handled scared the :censored::censored::censored::censored: out of me. Needless to say it was another couple of weeks before I attempted THAT adventure again.

Take your time and enjoy the ride!!!!!

It would be a boring world if we all rode the same bike/color. I have tried many over my 56+ years of riding, including a Stallion for a few months. Am now on 2 wheel Silverwing and 3 wheel Goldwing trike.:D:Trike1:

I rather enjoy going to various events and seeing what others have done to make their bikes fit their personalities. That's not usually something you see with the newer cars these days.

Motorcycles can go from the sublime to the completely outrageous. Even rat bikes can be very neat looking.

Personally, I don't care what you ride. I'll ride with you.

Well......speaking of a ride. I think I'll head out for one myself today before we get that darn cold snap that's supposed to hit us tomorrow afternoon.........

I just want to add my 2 1/2 cents worth. To all you riders of non American Bikes/Trikes I am glad that a lot of your rice burners are made in the USA but I must ask where does the buck stop. Not here!! Think about it!!:AGGHH:

I'm afraid the same argument could be make about the clothes you buy, the tools you own, and lots of other items that we spend money on everyday

Next time you are in your local "American" cycle dealer check the chaps, jackets, gloves, coffee cups, key chains, wallets, and chrome parts. Among various other items and see just where those are made. I would be that you might be surprised at how much of that is NOT "Made in America".

Yikes, in response to VAthumper, does this mean we should patronize WalMart? Check there shelves for the China word.

I have read with great interest the above thoughts and noticed there was no mention of a bike manufactured from late 96 to 2004 that was A L L MADE IN MARYSVILLE, OH. VALKYRIE was completely made-manufactured-assembled and has become an icon among a select group of riders from round the world. Not bashing any brand BUT the VALK is just plain different. Just my .02 worth.
