Cruise speed

Considering that the GL 1800 speedometer indicates between 5%-10% LESS than the speed you are physically traveling.. I know that mine is 3MPH off at 70MPH meaning im going 67 and not 70 as indicated by the speedometer....
With all that in mind and certainly not wanting to get a ticket i try to keep right at the speed limit based upon what the speedometer is reading... That gives me a cushion for error & since i run a GPS when on the road i know more precisely what error there is between actual spped and spped reading on the GL.

That error that seems to be on all GL's can mean that you are going faster OR slower than you really are but if you dont know how accurate your bike is they you could easily get a ticket even though you thought you were going right at the speed limit...

I have been hearing that many of the Police in Texas are not giving the 5 mph over that once was the norm...

I usually go 5mph over the speed limit. Now, out in Utah the limit is 75 & 80 in different spots. Then I usually do the limit,it depends on how I feel. The wind makes a difference too.

Leading Other Trikes, slightly below/at/above maybe 5 mph the posted Limits depending on Road Type, Traffic, etc. ......by myself, "I GET THERE".....;) ThumbUp

Like Deerwrangler my GPS tells me that my trike is 3 mph optimistic - at any speed! So if the limit is 70 that's where I set the cruise control and never worry about a ticket (haven't had one since 1953). If people pass me that doesn't bother me one bit - I'm enjoying the ride.

No more than 5 mph over the limit on open state hwy and intertate, the posted limited on secondary rds, slower on rds with sharp curves and blind spots. People here in Ky use both sides of the hwy. lol

I find the TG likes 70 mph. If speed limit is less, I usually stay no more than 5 over. much over 70 sucks the gas way to fast which means more frequent stops.

I normally run both trikes (not at the same time) the speed limit plus 5 MPH EXCEPT for running the 10 miles down the backroads to get home. Then it's 10 MPH under because of the DEER/BEAR FACTOR.

Three tours to Nam: 1968, 1969, 1970 with the Navy. Coastal and harbor patrols in the area the Army would consider I Corps and II Corps (Nothern half of the country; opposite end from you). We ran 9-month deployments with 3 months in between.

Welcome home!
