Clutch Chatter?

When I take off from a stop the clutch will chatter. Reminds me of one of my old cars when the clutch was badly adjusted or about wore out. The Wing used to take off like a shot when it was a 2-wheeler. I realize there's additional weight now that it's triked, but first gear has nothing. A kid on a bike would be faster. The rest of the gears are ok. Could it be the gearing is wrong? It's a 2000 GoldWing SE with about 18,500 miles on it.

I bought my 1994 1500 last fall. It did the same thing. I switched to Mobil synthetic MC oil and eliminated 95% of the chatter. It will still do it once in a while if I am not careful. But very happy with the results!

Yep, 1995 1500SE does that ,too. Seems to be a magic spot where the RPM's and clutch mesh and - viola! - no chatter. Strangely enough, the more I think about it and try to hit that spot, the less I do. The less I try to be smooth, the more I am.

Try changing oil. I found Rotella 5W40 in a gallon Blue jug at Wally World/Tractor Supply and a few other stores sell it @ approx $18.00 a gallon. It made a world of difference to my bike ( 1500 Wing ) quieter, shift is smooth and clutch seems smoother
