A couple of weeks ago I replaced the rear tires on my 06 Champion Trike. Saw a lot of gear oil on the axle and right wheel. Thought I blew a seal. Took it ot an installer and he said the differential looked over filled. He said it now was a the correct level. He cleaned the axle and wheel and now 1200 later I have the same thing.

Champion says it is contaminated gear oil that is foaming and escaping the vent hole. The installer says it is a very poor design of the vent system.

Any one else with a 03- 07 Champion solid axle experiencing the same thing?

TIA

Mine is an '06 Champion solid axle kit, and I've had absolutely no problem with it. No leaks, nothing loose...........I absolutely love it as a result.

seems it can only be one of two things bad vent or high pressure issue, a tear down of the diff will tell the story,,,best of luck man

is it a coating of oil or a lot of oil?

It is a light coating of oil, but 1500 miles ago I had it checked and cleaned.

Today, I had the diff oil changed as Champion said it had to be contaminated oil.

I do not buy this nor did the mechanic, but if it continues I then have something to report to Champion.

See my other post about the drive shaft. He discovered that two of the three bolts were missing. I was lucky to have taken the trike in today.

Sometimes timing is everything. Glad you caught the missing bolts. Maybe it will quite overflowing now that a know amount of lube was added to the proper level.

I have an 03 Champion solid axle with 123,000 miles on it. I had a right seal leak at 20,000 miles. When I replaced the seal I found that the original seal was pushed in too far into the axle housing causing it to ride too far in on the axle on an unground surface. When installed the new seal I installed two, doubling the seal. I have not had any problems since.

All is good. Finally. Had it to the mechanic several times. Replaced the oil (Champion thought the oil might be contaminated) It was not. Then Champion said to drain it again for 1/2 hour and refill it with exactly one quart. We measured the drained oil and it was 32.5 ounces so it was not over filled. Champion sent me a new breather vent and this seems to have fixed it. No more leaking. Just great riding.

2 axles seal leaks since day one,,6 mo.
one replaced to no avail
champion wanted the diff back to investigate but did not want to send a new one... i suspect the bike will be down for 1 to 2 months.

After reading different issues with trike builders it appears that champion for one does not have control of their process and /or does not have a quality control system.. OR HAS a bad design with the rear ends assy.UNBELIEVABLE WITH THE MONEY WE PAY

Just had mine triked (Champion SA) Nov 4th and had the right rear seal replaced about a week ago. The seal they replaced it with had quite a more pronounced lip and should do a better job. They used RTV also to make sure it doesn't leak. So far so good.
By the way, the vent on mine is rubber and I was told the older ones used metal tubing.

If you over fill a champion rear end you will get over flow. 1 quart for the solid axles and 2 quarts for the independents. Put more than that in and you are going to think the seal is blown... just drain a little or drain it all and make sure it's a quart.

Are they fixing it? I had a bad rear end and they replaced the housing that was leaking. I was only down for 4 days..but I do live in CA. It hasn't leaked since that was over 5k ago.. so I"m happy they took it back because now it's fixed and it was done at the factory.
