I am in the market for a trike kit for my 2000 883 Sportster and have pretty much settled on the Cass County kit, but the question remains...Will I have to change the Triple Tree to make it handle correctly or is there another fix?

Thanks for any info given.

Cass County kit uses your Sportster's existing swing arm which makes it different from some of the other kits. The owners at Cass County should be able to recommend whether or not your trike would have better handling with the front raked. Ask them and if they don't know, they should!

I was under the impression that Cass County made there own trike rear ends and didn't use the existing swingarms off any bike to trike kit.

Also my understanding about the swing arm. Oh well I guess I will have to wait until Sturgis winds down to get an answer to my question.

You retain the original swingarm and it is used in the trike build. Some other companies modify and weld the donor swing arm making it difficult to return the bike to it's original 2 wheel state.

Did you get your answer? I just installed one of their kits on our Suzuki C50's and it was not too tough a job. I also have a '94 1200ci Harley Sporster that I had considered triking out, but ended up with doing the Suzuki.

From looking over and reading their site it appears with the sportster they supply a swing-arm (aluminum if I read it right). If that kit is anything close to the one that I just installed then it should be well made....the Suzuki one was very well made and I'd have no problem suggesting it for others.

But anyway I'm curious to know if you spoke with them or not.

I put a frankenstein kit on my wifes o8 sportster and took it for a ride before I put a rake tree setup on her bike and thought there is no way in h%ll I am ever going to put my wife on this thing. I thought it's so bad that a raked front end would never fix it. the next morning I changed out the trees with a raked set (it took about an hour and some change) and what a difference. `i could not believe how much of a change it was. I had zero experience on a trike or changing out the trees but I am so glad I did. In my opinion I don't see how anything else could possibly make that much of an improvement. Spend the money and take the time to do it. imo.

I installed a 3 degree tree on my conversion and it was a big help, but I think I will go up to a six degree just for the hell of it. If I had thought about converting the front end to a 41MM with a six degree rake because I can buy the forks and tree for just a few bucks more than the tree alone and in some cases a lot less.

To HDI IA....Yes the sporty kit comes with a very solid aluminum swing arm replacement. In fact everything about this kit is solid, fits perfectly and easy to install.

4 degrees vs. 5 degrees triple trees question

I ordered a complete kit from Cass County on Aug. 1st this year. It has now been over 3 month to get my complete kit delivered. I got everything except the triple trees. After many attempts to be patient I finally called today and canceled my triple tree order. I talked to the owner Ron and he agreed he would refund me. I did not want to hear anymore excuses just that they would have it made today and ship tonight but they could not say that. So I had to ask for the refund. My question is will a 4 degree tree be ok. The one for my kit was to be a 5 degree rake? Thank you for you advise. I just need to be able to steer easier than now.

4 will work but 5 would be the preferred rake.

Thank you for your advise. As I look around I don't see any 5 degree what would accept my harley turn signal re-location kits. They currently attach to the lower tree. The Frankenstien trees look right but they are only 4 degrees. Does 1 degree make that much difference? As you can tell I am not sure of the requirements just can't continue on my path with Cass County.

No, one degree will not make that big a difference.

Thank you for the advise again. My new trees from frankenstein came in last night. Wow they really do care about their products. I hope to put it on this weekend. I got the 4 degree trees polished and they look sweet. Now I am glad I chose them instead of continuing to wait for Cass County. I will advise on the difference once installed.

Yep,
Just like everyone said. It is so smooth to ride now. Now wobbles at all. Tracks straight. Can't wait for warmer weather now to put a few miles on it. Thank you again all.
