Cargo carrier

I have a 08 1800 Honda GoldWing motor trike. I’m having a cargo carrier made that will fit into my receiver hitch. The tongue length on carrier is 10”. How much total weight including carrier should I safely be able to carry on it? Thanks for yalls help/advice

I just finished a trip to the Southwest on my Trike using the some set up. My cooler when loaded weighed about 25 lbs and had no issues at all.

If you don't have a manual from Motortrike then I would call them. They are the only ones who know what their designed hitch will carry. Besides, you live virtually next door to them according to your profile. Drop by and have a cup of coffee and ask them. :D

I called Roadsmith for the same info on mine. But, that may not have any relevance to yours. Good luck.

The Motor Trike receiver is capable of 100 pounds. I wouldn't go that high as it may have adverse effects on the trikes performance.

Putting 100 lbs on hitch carrier will pick up on front, the rear suspension will see over 100 lbs increase.

If building a carrier, try to keep it close to the trike to lesson leverage effect. The closer that load is to the rear bumper, the better the trike will handle it … just like you picking up a sledge hammer.

I built my own receiver, made it a long affair with a "hollow lever" that attaches to trike former centerstand mount. It's removable if need be, but it carries a load well. I know it will support over 200 lbs and no flex of receiver, but I limit us to a single action packer box of clothing, maybe 25lbs and if more, I'll pull out the trailer.
