Carbs for a 1300

I have a 1300 engine with dual carbs on it Motor# E934892. The carbs are Solex 35 PDSIT and they are beyond repair. Does anyone know what carbs are good for the 1300 and where is a good outlet to get some?????

It is probably a blessing that the Solex's have become an issue. Even if they were rebuilt to 'like new' status, they are, 1) a bit too large for the engine at 35PICT, and 2) notorious for never being able to sync properly. So if everything was mechanically right, the running would not likely be smooth at idle and/or as accelerating.

Sometimes a stock carb is the best solution for a VW problem and this is one of those times. For a 1300 cc VW, a 28 PICT or 30 PICT would work right and provide you with the best power curve. If you crave more horsepower, then invest a few bucks in a good dual port 1600 - with it you can look at expanding the carb system, etc. Plus your 1300 motor should have a reasonable value to the vintage VW guys as those motors are becoming rare.

Good luck with your project!!

Those were my thoughts also, too much carb for that engine, of course it might depend on how they are jetted. I run stock Solex single carbs on all of my VW engines and they work fine, easy to adjust also. They won't break any speed records but they will cruise at 60 MPH on the freeway all day with no problem. They easiest way to get HP on a VW engine is to put on a 4 into 1 exhaust system, a 2 bbl progressive carb and block off the heat risers.

I run a Solex 34 on my 1600dp and have no problem running interstate speeds all day long. I am interested in seeing what the OP ended up doing. I too thought the dual 35's was to much for the 1300.
