The next 6-7 days are a real nail biter in terms of finding out what the MOCO has been plotting for the 2018 Tri Glides. Having owned a 2016 and migrated to the M8 2017, I am hoping that I did not buy an "orphan" in terms of the frame, suspension, etc. I know that the MOCO has to keep moving forward to maintain market share but I sure hope that whatever changes they make are evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary for Harley like IRS.

IMO The MOCO will surrender NEW info on the Dyna line

The M8 will be the Big News again

I do not see any MAJOR changes to the Touring line cept higher prices{ LOL}

YES {I do believe} Indian will step up MAJOR this year to try to regain market share

The MOCO had best IMO pay attention this time OR it will be up to the share holders to sell the Company now while it is still solvent

JMO and I hope I am not the only one that thinks this way, or I too will jump ship to an INDIAN:xszpv:

Indian for 2018

Jack,

I looked up the 2018 offerings for Indian and they have added two models which are variations on existing themes. Does not look like a particularly good time for motorcycle manufacturers to be betting the farm on too many new bikes. As I talk to some dealers of various brands, there seems to be some resistance from consumers to buying new, large motorcycles. I would not want to have a huge debt load and be in the motorcycle business right now. I would not predict that the sky is falling but the overall financial recovery has favored the folks that are already well off and has seemed to bypass middle-class America where the volume comes from.

Indian is still building their dealership network to my understanding, Remember how GM tried to distance them self from Saturn. I think Indian has the green light from Polaris also I think the public did NOT welcome the Victory partly the Ness influenced line like the Bean counters wanted. Indian on the other hand already has its name in history, the sad day in 53 that our dads and grand dads talked about when the factory clised its doors. Harley had a cash cow 4 too olng JMO

Their Iron frame bikes were great, The problem was people walking into the showrooms couldn't get past the George Jetson looks of their big bikes The only reason i got past Those Jetsons bikes and seen and bought the Gunner is because my Harley dealer also sold Victory and Polaris ...And at some point Indian will run out of nostalgia buyers [Heavy Valance Fenders] And Polaris will pull the plug, Their money makers are in power sports....

I agree, I do believe this was the plan all along

Polaris is SMART as hell in the fun sports IE Snow machines and water craft

That said when the recession is over Polaris will cash out Indian and walk away Good Business move IMO

PS I am formerly from MN, I knew some folks that took it on the chin due to lay offs @ Polaris, I hope that Polaris recovers good and puts AMERIKA first again I misspelled AMERIKA 4 a reason I am sure I will get some blow back 4 it I am a proud American :)

If i'm not mistaken Polaris, Doesn't make water craft ... They dump that line like they did with Victory....

I just got back from Sturgis a week ago. Riding in the hills, I saw a lot of the Indian bikes there. They're very nice bikes. Everyone I talked to, seem to love them just as we Harley riders love ours.

me too my friend, me too....

Unless you just like the looks there's little difference and a good brother who put a lot of miles on both in 2-wheel configuration said that the batwing fairing gave better protection; enough that he could smoke behind a batwing but not the Road King fairing. FWIW

Now I might be wrong but I think SEADO was a Polaris product. I do know they own OMC (Evinrude/Johnson) Also I was told that Indian gives a $1,000 discount if you are a vet and that Arkansas is the place to buy one. Now that is what a new, (paper plate) owner of one told me.

Being a Veteran, Polars gave me a thousand off the Gunner i bought back in 2014..

Well, the new lineup is out and we do not have a orphan.....I didn't see anything that really tripped my trigger.....I would like to see the new low Rider softail up close, other than that I'm not impresses...

I maybe wrong but it looks like they dropped the Dyna line. Some Softtails offer the 114 option. CVO has the 117. Everything else with a M8 is 107. New frame for the softtail.

I agree that Indian will run out of steam. I cannot imagine buying a full size Indian now that Harley has introduced the 2017/2018 Touring bikes with the M8 engine. The M8 is a technically superior engine to the 111 and it is at the beginning of its life. I had an Indian Scout ABS and it was an high quality, acceptable handling, and powerful bike. However, for this 5'10" person, it simply was too small. It remains, IMO, the most technically advanced Indian. Indian accessories, IMO, are more overpriced than Harley. With the introduction of the M8 engine equipped, ABS standard, mid range Harleys, Indian will have real trouble IMO and unless one loves the look of the Indians. My wife was with me one day at a bike show and I pointed out the Indian display. She thought that the fringed up Roadmaster was awful and wondered, somewhat loudly, where did the playing card and clothspin go?

On another note, one day, when I was off my meds:), I bought a Slingshot. It was the lowest quality POS that I have ever bought and I will spare you all the details. My point is that Polaris is capable of manufacturing real junk if they get the opportunity and I suspect if the market gets ugly that they will start cutting corners on the bikes.

The Dyna frame has been discontinued, and the Softail line has a new frame with a mono shock design rather than the old under frame mounted dual shock system. They are still making the Low Rider, the Street Bob and the Fat Bob, but they are now also Softails. They Wide Glide has been discontinued. And yes several of the Softail models have the 114 motor available as a factory option.

As far as I can see, there are no significant changes to the Touring bikes or the Trikes. Very minimal or no price increases on the Touring bikes. Except for the Street Glide Special and the Road Glide Special. They have had some upgrades which include a "blacked out" look and stretched bags same as on the recently released Road King Special.

So my big question to the MoCo would be: Why is the 114 motor available as an option to the much lighter Softails and not on the Touring bikes, and in particular the Tri-Glide????

Just curious...what are thoughts on the Spyder becoming an orphan or not very soon?

I don't think so, The Spyder has a very large base of loyal owners...And with the auto trans there not as imitating to newbies as an Harley ....If anything Indian might go south.

I dunno, Polaris is betting the farm on this ICON

If the dealer networks get going stronger and they can keep the prices comperable we will have a stronger market and more advances in roll outs of new models and technologies

I think they will survive JMHO

Damn - wanted to see a CVO Trike!

I have a 2013 Tri and have been waiting and waiting and waiting for a CVO Trike :Trike1: - maybe next year? I think it's the 10th anniversary of the Tri-Glide. Wonder why they haven't done one yet - yeah it would be spendy but I bet it'd sell out in a heartbeat!! JMHO.
