heel shifters just in the way. always take the heel shiter off .

Grew up on Limey bikes and a '46 Indian. No heel shifters. Suicide shift on Indian. First thing I did on all 4 of my Harleys with the heel shifter is to take them off.

. maybe i just got big feet. You know what they say bout big feet. lol

I've got a heel shifter on my bike. Had one on all my Harleys. But now I have to have one, no choice in the matter. No toes, no foot, hell...no left leg. Truck took it off when he hit me on my Buell. I've learned to use my prosthetic leg to shift just like everyone else. It's a little odd looking, but it works!

The basic problem with the HD heel shifter is it's not ergonomically correct, just like the foot brake pedal.

You install the J&P Cycles extended shifter & adjust it properly, i.e. lower & you have use of the entire floorboard & the shifting is easy. The set up from the factory is useless, IMO.

Had a heel/toe shifter on my Goldwing but did most of my shifting without the clutch (wouldn’t recommend it on any other bike).

My Indian has the standard toe shifter and I like it. Just once in a blue moon when I’m zenned out enjoying my ride I’ll push when I should pull but it’s rare. I still like it though. Helps keep me ‘on my toes.’

Used to drive a Mack that had 2 gear shifts. You don’t go brain dead driving that!

I agree on the theft device for melinials. Goldwing has an automatic!! That should really put some interesting people on the road.

I had to get rid of the Toe/Heal shifter and go to a thumb shifter after i graduated to a wheel chair. Talk about a having to get used to something totally different. After I got used to it I actually kind of like the hand controls.

ISP-FL, I seen you ordered some shift pegs did you order the extended shift arm as well, I finally got around to put mine on today with the shift pegs and put the freeway kit on as well, the pegs I used from my softail matches my shift arms. I never really used a rear shifter but today I was surprised how easy it is, now the one from the factory was set to high and I have the extended one really low since it goes way past the floorboard, was hoping it would work and lo and behold it worked really well as low as I have it, was surprised but really happy , using the rear I don't have to raise my foot up to reach it, just slide back and shift, spent the afternoon riding the interstates and secondary roads and got sun burned in the process, guess my stuff I put on don't work really well. Now granted I don't have big feet, 9 1/2 but sometimes I was hitting the rear shifter peg and now I don't, love it.

So if anybody doesn't like rear shifter as I was, try the extended one you will be surprised as I was, only $39.95 I think from J&P cycle, worth a shot anyway and if you don't like you can sell it and get your money back.

Got a used cop bike, still got it, toe shifter was set to low to get underneath it. Used heel to shift up and toe to shift down. Now I have all of my bikes set that way except for the 1971 Electra Glide. The Heel toe shifter on it is one piece. So its a happy medium I guess. For me, when I heel down its a more solid shift as well as toe down. I liked the way the cop bike was so I changed the others that were capable of changing to that same shift pattern.

Almost 2 months with the heel shifter and I thought I was good-to-go.

This week we (2 other TGs) did the Dragon twice. About half way through hitting it pretty good I meant to go from 3rd to 2nd but instead went from 3rd to 4th. Of course there was zero time to spare since I was going into a tight one and needed the quick downshift to help take the speed off.

I'm glad the 19 Trikes have great brakes because I needed them! I didn't shard or even tinkle, but I did slow down for a few curves after that.

I have always taken the heel shifter off, I prefer to toe shift. But after reading this thread & people commenting on toe marks on their shoes, boots. I have been extremely lucky in that area. I have the same pair of boots that I purchased back in 99. I have had the soles replaced, but they still polish up nice when I do. They have aprox. over 200,000 miles of shifting on them!

Same here. Tried to use it a few times but just didn't like it.
