Have for years had a chase vehicle running with use to Sturgis. We'd throw our tents in the pickup and not worry about it. Well, this year no vehicles going so I had t come up with a solution to get my stuff to Sturgis and back. UPS will haul it up and back for around $80.00.

That in mind I went to Harbor Freight and bought one of their 500# aluminum received luggage racks. Had a $59.00 return credit plus one of their 25% off coupons. Ended up paying less than $30.00 for it.

When it was installed it stuck outside the fenders which I didn't like at all. So out came the cut off and hack saw. I cut it down to 32", the same width of the trunk.

Now I have the ideal rack to haul my tent, bedroll, air mattress and other stuff.

Measure twice, cut once......

should be able to do big wheelies with that set up. What happened to taking off the tour pack and putting on the carrier I sold you

Nice job albeit maybe just a little oversize......maybe put a small set of 'wheelie bars' on it :gah

several of my buddies made the same "wheelie bar (caster)" comment. But I have a 6" receiver riser on it. Doesn't look like it in the pics but it's a little over 6" off the ground. I can open the trunk maybe a foot or so, so I do have access to the trunk area. I put some foam pipe insulation in the trunk side of the rack to keep it from marring three paint. Also put bright white reflective tape on all rails. Did all this after the pics were taken..

i did think about making it narrower but cutting it was kinda like chopping the top on a car, which I done numerous times, just too many angles and cuts. I felt would effect the integrity of the unit. Now when I get back from Sturgis I might change my mind.

I put some 50# of free weights on it last night, nearly twice what my tent, air mattress, etc.

weighs and it didn't drop but maybe 1/4".

Ohhhhh I got the CB cable coupler, pulled all the speaker and light wires into a nice little bundle under the body configuration. Pulled the tour pac off and rode around for a couple weeks right after schools was out. Installed the luggage rack bars but not the back rest. But now it's long travel time, so put everything back together for at least the next 2 1/2weeks. The tour-pac will probably come back off til Sturgis.

Ohhhh, just FYI, was standing in line getting food one night bout a month ago. A fellow in front of me had been looking at my bike said he'd had a flxxxx, had put a tour-pac on it and sold the bike. The luggage rack and back rest were hanging on his garage wall gathering dust. I made him what I thought was a VERY low ball offer and he took it. So I've got 2 setups now. LoL
