Brain's On Overload

Hi All,
Been lurking for a couple of weeks. Joined today. You guys are great! Seem like a nice bunch of folks! Found you from "V Twin Mama" website forum. She speaks very highly of this site and TOI. Sorry, I digress

I hope I'm in the right place on TT to ask this. If not, I apologize ahead of time. Just let me know . . .

For about 6 weeks, I have been researching the best bike/trike choice as my main ride. I'd prefer a trike for a number of reasons, but am not sure I can afford the cost of one big enough to do what I want, i.e. carry me to work, mostly interstate, day in and day out, and get good gas mileage. My head's about to explode from all of the reading. I've been saying prayers, cuz I don't have the money to make a mistake. Then, I found you guys and now, I'm really on overload

I'm 5'8" and 275. I tend to be one of those that drive the speed limit (70mph on NE Texas interstates), unless I'm trying to stay out of or get out of trouble I ride alone. I don't know any other riders to talk to and have not gotten a lot of good/reliable info from local dealers. They just want to make a sale to the "little lady". Anyway . . .

Do you think a 900cc would be big enough with my weight AND a coversion? Based on what I've read, once you get above 1100, the gas mileage seems to really start dropping off. I was hoping to get something in the 35mpg and up range, even if it meant putting some kind of booster kit on.

I think I just need some direction. I've got TOO much info . And am not sure where to start narrowing it down.

You could probley pick up a used 1500 gold wing for in the neighberhood of thirteen thousand.
As long as you keep the rpms below 3000 they will get just about that range you or talking about at least my 96se 1500 with a 06 lehman kit.
At 70 to 75 mph on the interstate one up around 32.
You need to find a couple of people who have trikes and see if they will let you take it for a ride.
You will find just because they have a smaller motor does not mean they will get better fuel milage,remember you are adding some ware in the neighborhood of three hundred pounds to a bike so the motor is going to have to work harder.
As for as your weight your weight and size are about the same as mine.

Hi Jim,
For me personally, I have never been a Gold Wing kinda person. But I have been looking at the 1300 VTX and the C90. There's a 2008 VTX in Oklahoma that I'm trying to get more info on. I don't know anybody, anywhere around here who owns a bike, much less a trike; which is why the research has been so difficult.
