We picked up a new dog from the pound about a week or so ago. The white dog

We named her Chicken Foot

She has some type of condition with her toes. They are long

The vet said it has something to do with her being in a cage to much.

Not sure how that did it but that is what the vet said.

This dog is Bat Crap Crazy

She is so hyper it is sometimes hard to deal with.

She has destroyed every dog toy we have given her. I even picked up some from the pet store that said they were indestructible

In the Pic below you can see her playing Big Mouth with our other Dog Taz

Give her some time....she'll settle down. No telling how long she was in that cage. We rescued one that spent the first 2 years of her life in a cage. She could hardly walk for a while and was scared of EVERYTHING. She still is pretty skittish and we've had her for 5 years. She doesn't have real good movement and balance when just walking around but is very sure-footed and agile in a full run. And yes, thank you for rescuing her.

Yeah, give her time. She will adjust. We rescued an Anatolian Shepherd a while back. She was very skittish but has come around. Thanks for rescuing her!

Our last two came from a shelter. Breaking them of bad habits they got away with while there has not been a simple matter. They both know the wagging finger of shame though.

Squeaky toys have a life span measured in mere minutes with our black and tan spoiled thug, but deer antlers and rawhide do keep him busy!

I agree....thank you for rescuing her :clapping: We buy these toys called Kongs. They are tough and hollow. Whenever we wanted some quiet time we would smear peanut butter inside them and give one to each dog :D

We add dog food mix to the kong our idiot just tongues the peanut butter out in seconds.

yep we got some of those.

They are the best so far.

Now the issue is she is chasing our cats.

Cant seem to stop her

we have enrolled her in training and she goes for her 2nd class tonight

Any suggestions on how to stop her form chasing the cats?

Hmmmm. That's a tough one. We had a cat once. We gave the cat a safe place to go. We left the laundry room door open with a baby gate across it. If he was chased, he knew he could leap over the baby gate and get away from the dog.

Stopping the the urge to chase them to begin with is harder. I would keep her on a leash so you could grab her at the first sign of trouble. Then ask her to do something positive like "sit" or "down". If she obeys give her some love and a treat. Consistency is key. It will take a while but eventually she will lay down or sit instead of chasing. This would be my approach. YMMV.

I hope this helps.

No suggestions on cat chasing.

Hopefully the trainers would have some suggestions.

Good luck.

A few years ago we actually raised some orphaned kittens and the dogs never bothered them. The kittens were not afraid of the dogs, in fact, they would wrestle and roll around together, playing. But then the kittens never offered to run from the dogs, so the dog's chase instinct never happened. Don't know why this circumstance was different because, in the past, we've had dogs that would chase anything that moved in their yard.

It's a catch 22. Cats run, dogs chase. Training the cat not to run is right up there with training the dog not to chase. But fortunately the dog might get the idea. We have a dachshund that will chase until the cat just stops. Then she has no idea what to do except bark until the cat runs again. It's turned into a game and now the cat teases the dog all the time like that. Now I have to train this dog not to bark. It's a never ending circle of training. Nothing works. Cats run dogs chase. Good luck.:clapping:

luckily the cats have places to hide.

We have 3 acres, half wooded and with some sheds, several desks off our house and so on.

So the cats have places to go that the dog cant get to.

In the house we can keep in under control fairly well

She is on her 2nd week of training now.

Last week it was sit and focus

This week it is walking on a leash and greeting people and other dogs

Next week it is Leave it (like leave it alone) The trainer says this should help with the cat chasing.

The wife signed her up for 12 weeks of training

BTW.... she ate my TV remote last night and it was not a cheap one.

Luckily she did not eat the wife's tablet or phone that was right next to the remote

We have to start putting things away at night

The pound said she is about 1 1/2 years old but she acts like a puppy

My Sons French Bulldog constantly grabs the Girls Dolls and stuff and make them chase him to get it back' Before he rips it up.., Thats how the Dog is slowly teaching them to put their stuff away and out of reach....

she has passed basic training.

She can do a few tricks now and she is behaving better

We just started the intermediate class with her

Now if we can just get her to stop bringing deer poop in the house and eating it

Maybe she will learn that in the advanced class
