Best place to live?................HOME!!

SW Kansas: No scenery, Little shopping, 50/50 weather, and damn few people! If I want all that other stuff, I can get on my bike and ride anywhere I want.

Middle Tennessee. No State income taxes, 25 mile from the Natchez Trace, all the twisties you want to ride, low population and cost of living. In fact I have a house and 23 acres for sale here overlooking the Buffelo River for 135k. Wife and I want to move to central Fl to spend the rest of our lives close to the grandkids.

NorthCentral AR, just south of Missouri State line. Close to Ozarks, Close to TN, two hours from Little Rock. Pay for jobs is not real good, but cost of living is low. Housing and taxes are not real high, and you seem to get more for your money here in property. People here still stop to help you when you need help and God is still a major presence in most of our homes and communities. The towns support their ball teams and most towns are at the School Gym when games are being played. We have most major seasons, with mild winters and warmer summers. The closer you get to the hills the less you will see of Mosquitos.

We have a lot of rice grown here, and that is quite interesting, but the land in those areas offers beautiful rides laying tributes to Plantation homes and large Pecan groves. There is alot of old culture still alive in rural Arkansas, and a lot of things to see on "out of the way" highways. (We have boy home town for Johnny Cash, beginning store for Lum and Abner, and of course the Famous HubCap Burger in Scott) The state affords us acres and acres of State and National Parks, Lakes and Rivers, and Diamond Digs. From here, you can be anywhere in less than three hours, and OH! what a bike ride it is! We are not called the Natural State for Nothing!!!!!

Texas is the place to be, snow one day a year every 3 yrs, drought once every 4, terrorist attacks m not often, because we shoot terrorists, or lethal inject them, bbq on christmas or New Years day, and thousands of miles of good roads. Did I mention no state income taxes?.....and best of all Perry won't be governator forever. Also, homes are reasonably priced, and the population is not migrating.:10:

Outside of the USA, gotta be New Zealand. Do you like speaking English, big mountains, miles of beaches, rolling plains, Maori culture, deserts, cities, rainforests, maritime history, gorgeous small towns, geothermal features, modernity, English language, laid back friendly folks, eco-friendly mindset, cloud forests, or English speakers? Got 'em all! And they speak English.

I was born in NJ. Lived there for 19 years. Lived in Washington state after that for 20+ years. Finally moved here to Az for 22 years. Nice weather in the Winter. Gets kinda hot in the Summer so we bought another place up in the mountains where it's about 25 degrees cooler. Nice 190 mile through the Salt River Canyon. Over 100 lakes and streams in the area. Good trout fishing. Lots of nice roads to ride. I plan on being here til the end.:GL1800:

haha - that's just what we tell people to keep the place all to ourselves.

Actually, every area of Texas is different. The geography is different, accents are slightly different and each area is known for certain characteristics. Piney woods, coastal plains, rugged mountains, or wide-open spaces. What's not different is the people. No matter where you are in the state you will find the people to be unbelievably friendly and always independent. It's our heritage.

Good luck with your search and if you ever come down here you might want to give the area we call the "hill country" a look-over. Between the cypress-lined rivers and streams, limestone bluffs and caverns and endless large rolling hills, it probably attracts more riders than any part of the state. From the fabulous German restaurants in Fredericksburg to exotic game hunting or just a relaxing day of tubing down the Frio river it is really hard to beat.

South Carolina, I live on a 50,000 acre deep lake, less than 2 hours from the beach and less than 2 hours from the mountains. We don't wear shoes down here so you wouldn't like it!

I lived in San Diego for 25 years and for the best weather that is the place to be. I live in Mooresville NC now and I enjoy it too. I think that the best place depends upon what you are looking to do.

Have lived coast to coast, border to border and 6 years in Europe thanks to good ole uncle sam. Enjoyed everyplace I have ever lived as you will only get out of something what you put in !! All our road trips up down and across always lead us back to central Florida where I've been since 1980. If I were to relocate, it would probably be Texas as you are pretty much in the middle for traveling or Arizona where I grew up and went to most of my high school years. I always loved the desert country anyway. I've had enough snow in the past and rather be able to ride "all year round".

How about SW Idaho?..Boise area...Head south 30 minutes and you have amazing uncrowded mountain ranges and high desert vistas as far as the eye can see. Head north 30 minutes and you have pine covered mountain ranges, trout streams and alpine lakes, the Sawtooth Wilderness, and amazing Trike rides thru hundreds of miles of uncrowded mountain roads. Long riding season here. Snows a coupla inches 2 or 3 times a year,, melts off in 1 or 2 days. Here it is almost December and there are still tons of Bikers out ridin' every day,, including me and my Buds!. The Harley dealership here is the 3rd largest in the country and the largest in a 7 state region. They sell more used bikes than any other dealership in the nation. Harley themselves send all their demo bikes here to be sold. They sell more Triglides than any dealership in the West also. Currently have 8 of them on the floor!..

They get so many from Harley cuz they sell so many. Still only one really nice new freeway thru the whole valley and NO traffic issues unless there is a wreck. No helmet laws also, which appeals to a lotta people. Low taxes, very much a Red State, very very low crime rates,,,, Amazing riding in Oregon 45 minutes to the west... Just a great uncluttered place to live and ride if you are a motorcycle person. Look at a map of Idaho. This is still an undiscovered place.

Well Blondie...Every state has both colors. There are a lotta women driving around with a bumper sticker on their car that sez "Blue girl in a Red State"...And they seem to get along fine. The vast majority of Idahoans dont judge anyone by their idealogical colors. Nobody I know has time for that foolishness.

Hmmmmm...I will say, I dont know a single blue leaning Bike Rider here, and I know a lot of them.

If I could move anywhere, I think I would have a hard time choosing between North West SC, SW NC or SouthEast Tenn. I think the weather is pretty mild in those areas and I love the mountains, and it is horse country, too!

Far west Texas has mountains -- the Guadeloupe mountains. Not like the REAL mountains of Colorado, or even New Mexico, though. I kinda like Texas (my favorite foreign country).

Well I vote for the New Zealand South Island.

But I've never been there! So why?

Firstly there are no snakes in New Zealand. In Oz we have 5 of the top 7 most poisonous snakes in the world- Taipan, King Brown, Tiger, etc. Crocs in the north etc.

None of that in kiwi land.

They speak English- well sort of...like us, our own version. Their accent is remarkable and their words funny. we call a container used to carry ice and beer an Esky they call it a chilly bin, we call fish and chips they say it fush and chups, gumboots here are wellingtons there,

There is much rivallry between the two countries especially sport- rugby, cricket etc but when the chips are down we fight togther...did in both world wars as we did with you guys. So there is a strong inner bond.

The south island is famous for the scenes of Lord of the Rings. There are ice capped mountains and fishing galore. Closest thing to Irelands green valleys and the Swiss alps. Comedian Billy Connelly did a world tour and its on DVD's.

there is one on NZ south island, one in Oz, one in England and Scotland and one in Ireland- all done on trikes.

Take a look at Vermont & New Hampshire. You may need a translator, they speak a different language than you do. The summers are pleasant The winters are long and gives you lots of time to plan your summer trips.

My perception of the USA, with its 280 million or so people give or take several million, is one of "crowded"! So I have neve rimagined anywhere that you guys are that is "not many people". Ionder- what does "not many people mean".

Melbourne is our state capital of Victoria about 9 hours drive south of Sydney. It has say 1.3 million people. Thats too many for me and headed for the hills many years ago. Shepparton is about 45 minutes drive away and it has 50,000 people. Euroa (Ned Kelly held up the bank there) has around 3000 people and thats 15 minutes away. Strathbogie where I live has 250 people.

And that's just right! Most of us in this village have one acre or so land. We are 2 hours from Melbourne.

There was a mention of Tennesse. The only time I've seen that area mentioned has been Graceland or shows on the devastating twisters. Atlanta- the olympics and how humid it was at that time, New Orleans and the cyclone...sorry hurricane and the images of the people in the football stadium stranded, Colorado and the "fracking" to extract gas and the harm to peoples land and well being, Wisconsin and the Fonz,

So sorry for my ignorance and lack of knowledge. Its nice to hear my perceptions are somewhat inaccurate. Looks like there are many nice quiet places there in the USA.

I have been triking/riding in Nevada, Arizona,Tennessee,Indiana and Florida (lucky,lucky,lucky me!!!) There are indeed lots of places in the US where there are not many people. I have seen the most beautiful countryside and scenery on every ride I have done. While each ride has held different experiences of the sites and sounds, the one thing that has been constant is the wonderful people you meet along the way.
BTW so far tennessee is my favorite y'all

You watch that show "cops" and you get the impression the whole country is under seige with crime waves. We dont see much of the heart of USA here on TV

Thinking of overseas? I emigrated to Thailand two years ago - never regretted it - even thos we were flushed out of our home by the FLOODS in October. Beautiful countryside, magnificent beaches, and some of the best highways around. The weather isnt too bad either!

I`ve lived in Asheville NC the last 10 years.To me it is some of best riding country around. Places to go in every direction. Rally in the Valley right in my back yard.Summers and falls are great here(not too hot). I cant think of anywhere better that i`d like to live.
