GL 1800 (05) w/motortrike Adventure kit. Want to install Belly pan to protect coolant reservoir bottle and oil filter. How much trouble to install with trike kit and best make or model of belly pan. Thanks:Shrug:

We have a 06 GW CSC with the floorboards and I take mine off every winter to give the underside a good cleaning. Takes me about ten minutes to remove the whole pan, it is the two piece solid version. I read somewhere that the slotted pan helps the cooling, so I took a ride without the pan for a little test. Didn't see enough of a difference to warrant buying a different one. I do have a hoist in the shop that allows me to walk under the bike, so that will make a difference in the time to install. Loosen two exhaust heat shroud bolts on each side, slip it in place and tighten the bolts. Your making a wise decision to install a pan. Ride safe.

Installed a two piece pan, no holes. Don't have a hoist. Did have to remove aquashields in order to get belly pan into correct position (must fold under shield bracketss and lower cowl (on the front-end of bike)).

Took about 30 minutes. Have not noticed any cooling problems with this type of pan.

Some swear by it because limits the debris (pebbles/sand, etc) that can get up into the pan. Others prefer a vented pan for perceived cooling benefits. Gut call on that. Hope this helps!;)

I have a 2006 GL1800 with a 2011 Roadsmith conversion - and a two-piece non-vented belly pan installed before the conversion. (The conversion should have no effect on the installation.) There are zero heat issues. For changing oil I need only unlatch the front section of the pan - simple. Be very careful of the sharp edges of the pan on installation. Might be a good idea to rub some sandpaper or a file on those edges before installing.
